Over the past year, there have been news articles about the Great Resignation. People quitting their jobs left and right. Even now there are more jobs than there are people applying.
In my industry, IT and Software Development, I can say with conviction that I'm the busiest I've ever been. I'm even turning down software dev jobs at this point.
But for the provider, such as yourselves, how has it affected you? How is your industry fairing?

Hi James,
Interesting Question. Our office is small, 7 employees including myself. Overall our staff has had little turnover over the last decade, one medical assistant left last summer. Her family has a photography business, they lost an employee and asked her to take that position, which she did.
We advertised and got 1 resume. One. 3 or 4 years ago, the last time that position was open, we probably got 50 resumes, with at least 5 or 6 looking like good candidates.
We hired her, and she has worked out well.
The hospital is begging for nurses. Restaurants have cut back hours. But, fortunately, it has not really affected our office.

We're also a really small office so haven't been affected by any resignations thank goodness.

No turn over from my little clinic of Internal Medicine. But I heard restaurants and other service sectors have a hard time filling positions.

I have to echo the opinions above. I have not hired new staff in almost 10 years. I lost one to the hospital but we were able to distribute her work among the others so it worked out (they got more hours).

We lost one staff member to wanting to stay home with her sick child fighting cancer, understandable! One left because she went to work for family. We were able to replace her rather quickly and the other 2 have been employees for years. Small restaurants around here have closed due to staffing and COVID issues. Wife and I went to a Sonic (a drive in) a few months ago and there was only one worker in the building. he was the only one to cook, take orders, work the drive in stalls and the drive up window. If I was him I would have turned off the lights and gone home.

Have an employee that was offered 50% more than I pay her to move so she is going to work for a lab in town. Everyone seems to be offering more money and my reimbursements don't seem to be keeping up with the pay I will need for the employees to stick around. Thankfully the other 2 employees are happy with their work environment and flexibility for family with working forme.

This week should be fun. Had an employee quit. Worse she then quit one week shy of her two-week notice which is worse than just quitting the day she quit. So, next week we are definitely without her. Now my MA has Covid.
So, it is I with my biller to see patients all week. I do have this super nice, try as hard as she can part-time biller/coder who just goes after claims which are not paid to fill in. But, every time she comes she asks where that round rotary thing went on the phones and why do we hit a Start button to Stop the computer. She has a good point there. We went 11 years with the same employees. Now, it is like a Merry-Go-Round.
The hard part is changing all the computer accounts and apps and stuff.

You click the Start Button to stop your computer for the same reason you turn your ignition to stop your car. One of the things I studied in computer science was "useability." How to make programs intuitive to use. So, yes, you click START to start the shutdown process, as it were. By the way, for those of you who have been around for a while, you'll note that useability is an elective most programmers don't take. It's pretty obvious in the design of many programs. I think you are taking my post much too seriously. A friend of mine were having a debate over Microsoft vs Apple, and he said, you guys hit the start button to stop the computer. He had a good point. Of course, he was joking to some degree.
In the old days, when you inserted a key and turned it clockwise, it started the car. To turn off the car, you hard to turn it counter clockwise and pull out the key.

Never. Tell your ledge story at some hotel or resort on a beach. Can't get enough of that one.

I remember he told some story about being on a ledge outside of a hotel room. Some crazy place where he could have fallen and all his SQL knowledge would have gone with him.
