If any of you forum users are interested in a general discussion site for physicians, there is a new guy in town, DocsForum.net.   The site was developed as a place to discuss clinical information and other topics of interest. The plan is for people to present challenging or interesting cases, and share new and worthwhile clinical results and insights. It serves as a place to get instant consults from a wide range of docs.  Tips on practice management and surviving and thriving in the modern medical environment are encouraged. Discussion of non-medical topics of interest is encouraged as well.

There have been other sites like this over the years.  Some of you may be familiar with Sermo, which was probably the closest model until it developed some problems.

The site is just getting going, so the volume of material is a little sparse, but the early members are a knowledgeable and friendly group.  If you want to discuss medicine, or just chat about your interests, pet peeves, or hobbies, then take a look at DocsForum.net.

(This should in no way compete with this AC forum and is not intended to draw participation from this user board in any way).

The site should be easy to access but does require permission to view and post from the moderator. If you have any issues with admission, send me a PM here.

Thanks Jon, I will take a look at it.

Are you actually involved in this site? Obviously that would give greater credibility.

Thanks.

Well a forum is a forum.
It can take on any direction the owner wants it to.

Here ,Bert wants to support amazing charts only right now.
Trying to make to many different support forum areas may complicate a forum.
So that is a great site for other interests.

But we could easily add separate categories with their own forums for anything you wish.
I will leave it be at that.

Yes, Gene, I am very much involved. I hope the site will build to a enjoyable, informative place for friends and colleagues to gather. Would love to see you (and our other friends here) join us.

DocsForum.net (not .com... DocsForum.net).

Ruben,
The main focus of this forum has always been AC. In addition, at times many of us have used it as a place to get advice, both medical and non-medical. It can be a handy place to vent, as well. This board has also been a place where friendships and support groups have developed, all with Bert's encouragement.

At this point, the number of people who frequent an all-AC site... or even an all-EMR site, is not really not enough to sustain wide-ranging, diverse discussion. So while I appreciate the offer to expand the forums offered here, I am not sure that would do the trick.

Many AC users are solo or in small groups, and that makes us relatively isolated in the medical community. DocsForum.net may particularly appeal to AC users for that reason, but it should not in any way reduce participation here. I know that it will not stop me from visiting and posting here.

Any place I can get a curbside or a "net side" is good for me. Probably get a quicker response than from most. smile Haven't been there yet. Is there a disclaimer, i.e. any information provided on this site by any member or doctor should be used by the discretion of any provider? Something like that.

I recall after about two weeks in practice. This was 25 years ago. I had a girl with a possible UTI (yes a possible UTI two weeks out of residency seemed like a NEJM case. My advisor for three years of residency wouldn't even offer any advice when I called her as she was worried it would put her in jeopardy. Well, last time I called her. I will just keep her solid glass ball on my desk. Pretend it is a crystal ball.

@ JON,

I am now a member. But wouldn't more people join if it started out Read/Non-write, than Non-read, Non write. Here is it is Read/Non-write. In other words if people were allowed to view it...

Thank again, maybe they only want those with NPIs to see it, since it is over the heads of the average person who comes across it. I did notice it changed to Read/non-write after I signed up but before I was approved.

BTW, the number of posts aren't shown. How do I become #1 in posts again. Feels weird to be a forum newbie.

A number of people who are early supporters of the site are anxious that it be both physician-only and private. I think you are correct that it would attract more people if it was "readable" but that is a price to be paid for privacy.

And I do not think you need advice on how to become a "top poster"... wink
Besides, the site is brand new so the top spot is up for grabs!

I recommend opening up the forum to discussions about other EMR softwares. I spelunk through other databases besides AC. smile
