I am just wondering if anyone else has ever wanted this feature. Maybe it doesn't happen enough to make it worth it. I just think it would be helpful to have an option to set a default area code or area codes so that any other are code would be a different color or be bold or something. This was never an issue until cell phones.
But there are patients whose number was brought with them from another state or area code. When I go to call them, 9 times out of 10, I just dial the seven-digit phone number. There have been times I simply stop trying, because I don't notice it.

Hi Bert,
So you have 7 digit dialing for local calls? We have had 10 digit dialing for any calls, including local, for well over 2 decades.
As a total aside, I started practice 33 years ago in a very small community in rural South Central Pennsylvania. For about 4 years, local calls only required four digit dialing.
According to a telephone repair man, the local switching equipment was so old, it was exactly the same vintage as that displayed in an exhibit in the Smithsonian for telephone systems from the 1920s.

You have to remember this is Maine. We could probably have 3-digit numbers, but it would look bad. When I was a kid we had 5-digit phone numbers. But, it was made up for by rotary dialing. If you met a girl and her number was something like 320-0059, you just moved on. Too long to dial her number.
Teenagers today would be astounded. We had one rotary dial telephone in the kitchen. That was it. We all shared it. Sure, you could text from it, but we didn't know it. Our phone number was the first one I remember. To this day, it is the only phone number I remember before moving here. I use it in many of the security questions. There was one other I had in Gainesville, Florida I remember, but only because it was 371-3784 or 371-DRUG. Gainesville -- University of Florida -- 371-drug. Can't beat that.

Bert - are you a UF grad? I'm going to have to temporarily hijack this thread to say: Go Noles! :-)

I don't think I would be bragging about them right now, lol. And, no I am not crazy. That post had a reason to it. (meant the one just above with all the z's. But, growing up in Palatka, Gators vs Noles was huge. Man did we not like Bobby Bowden. But, he was a helluva coach. And, funny as hell.
