I think this must be yet another way the government is trying to fix the opioid problem besides instituting the death penalty.

I always thought my DEA license was about $200 every two years.

I received my notice that I needed to renew up DEA license. It is always fun, because unlike any other notification of a bill, software renewal, subscription renewal, which are all concerned with the date by which you need to submit payment, the DEA likes to tell you that you must pay by such and such, but you cannot pay before such and such a date.

Anyway, they don't tell you until you get to the final page, then I found out it was $731.00! That seems like quite a bit. Is this nationwide? Is this what others are paying?

I was also wondering why they had to have the last dollar in the amount.

Hey Bert, the DEA registration renewal has been every 3 years, for as long as I have been in practice, which is now almost 30 years. Although the price was very affordable, initially, it has increased dramatically, over the last several years. What I read, some time ago, was that the funds are being used to help the DEA fight the drug wars. Why they selected physicians, as a group, to be targeted to fund this is beyond me.

It's been $730 for the last 2 renewals, I think. I renewed last year, I believe

See! See! Wendell just confirmed it. It is going up.

I had to pay $731.

Wendell, can this fall under your infamous phrase, "And did it tell you it is free?"

I'm not sure it's going up, it IS up. When I first applied for a DEA in the 1980's it was something like $40. Now its almost 18 times that.

But it hasn't changed recently
