Hello All! My providers print non-controlled RX on plain paper BUT some of the pharmacy's (CVS) are denying them saying that the paper needs a watermark. Any idea how to do this ?? thanks so much. RX paper is getting $$$$

In googling the guidelines I came up with this:

They need to have at least 1 feature from 3 categories (see link for details)

Each state may enact tighter restrictions than the federal government.
AC does have microprinting which, with laser printing, is supposed to be unable to be photocopied.

Technically the rules only apply to Medicare and Medicaid, but....

The flip side is that there are a number of reasonable priced places to find paper

The bottom line is it's much easier to just eRX!!!!

I buy security paper from amazon:

DocuGard Premier Blue Security Paper, 10 Features, 8.5 x 11 Inches, 24 lb, 500 Sheets (04543)

Use it or printed rxs on a 2nd paper tray. Can set AC to default rx prints to that printer.

How/where does AC set the microprinting? Is this something that I can set to print or not?

And yes you are right it is easier, usually, to eRX but the doc's sometimes want to hand the non controlled RX to patient but not waste the security paper!

I know that line under signature is a safety mark but I honestly don't remember how to set it, if we set it up in the beginning or if it just magically appeared!!

Be grateful - Washington state in their infinite wisdom chose to make it law to use specialty paper for all prescriptions done in the state. It certainly encouraged providers to tell patients they send scrips electronically. I give out very few to patients other than controlled substances.

What do they mean by a watermark. I mean I know a watermark is embossed across the page of the script. Most decent printers can write anything you want as a watermark. But, you could be talking about something you scratch or whatever. Scratch and sniff. You could make it smell like whatever script. Like amoxicillin would be bubblegum.

Still like the Star Printer. Although, we are not allowed to do anything but eRx or EPCS. Except for private patients. They are much less likely to divert Atarax or Trazodone. They can have plain paper.

A traditional watermark is made by the paper-maker when a sheet of paper is made.
You can hold a piece of fine stationery up to the light and see the "watermark" as a lighter-colored manufacturer's mark.

It isn't something you print later.
We don't use fine stationery any more -- just reams of ugly copy paper.
But everything gets dumbed down in this post-Neolithic world, I guess.
