So, it is time for a better office stool. Like way better. I don't know if I need a new mattress or new office chairs or both, but I could probably use better back support and less pain.
Have been using just the regular stools for 20 years, and that means trying to maintain posture the entire day. I think at least having a back would help. I do spend a bit of time at a table looking at a monitor and researching diseases.
Money really isn't an object up to a point. I mean I have seen some chairs that are $300. I would easily path that. Only need two. But, I don't want to pay that and not know what I am getting.
Of course, Google returns at least 15 stools that claim they are the best.
Anyone have any ideas.

While you are looking for a new chair I'm going to make another recommendation that is based on an assumption: Get a gym membership. When I worked at General Electric Global Nuclear Fuels the programmers I worked with were 30 - 55 years old and they all had two things in common: Brilliance and back pain. They all complained about back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, etc. I was the only one that didn't complain about some type of pain. We all had nice comfy chairs with good support. But we all sat 12 hours a day. The reason why I never complained about back pain? This is me deadlifting 405lbs for six reps. There is no back pain when your back has the strength to handle sitting all day. James, might I suggest a slogan for your "brand": "James Summerlin; busting IT stereotypes one at a time".

I got one of these about 6 months ago for my dual monitored office desktop. http://www.varidesk.com/Sounds strange but standing my bifocals work better, and I definitely feel more alert and in control.

Jim, I keep looking at those... which particular model did you get? The patient sits across my desk from me, so I would envision raising and lowering the desk pretty frequently. Is that practical?

Jon, I got the pro plus and my nurse got the cube corner. I keep mine up in standing position, but it would be very practical to lower and raise frequently. So I could see that working quite well, but the screens may get in the way a bit so you might have to peek around, but you are long in the trunk as I recall. thanks Jon

Those do look pretty cool. I would have to leave it in one place. I always have to think about the munchkins at the same time.

I can't recommend a standing desk highly enough. I think that conversely your stool is good for forcing you to maintain posture, if you can focus on it. For example, sitting on a medicine ball gives you NO support, but builds core muscle strength. Another company I like is this one: http://www.ergotron.com/

I just ordered an EvoDesk to try out. I may put them in all the exam rooms. ![[Linked Image from ]](http:www.evodesk.com/img/standing-desk-evodesk-keyboard.jpg)

So a local medical supply store is loaning me a chair to try. I will start this week. The person I lease from who is in the same building offered to let me try his "ball chair." You may have seen them. You have to balance, so you strengthen your abdominal muscles." So, I went in to his office this afternoon to try it and was disappointed to find out it had been converted to a doggy lumbar chair. Complete with his water and food bowl and wine closet. They always have dogs in their office. Drives me nuts. Just roam around, eating our food or making kids happy or scared. https://app.box.com/s/ekoheua3y2wd3ptr1qclsosuuiqa7tpp

Forget the expense of an EvoDesk. You could get a FREE back brace here: http://bracehotline.com/

The desk is about much more than just the back, but overall health. You need to stand some.

Ryanjo, ha ha. very funny. Thank goodness for the ability to have a spamlist in updox to filter out unsolicited back brace DME faxes :-)
