I was just reading about the fact that XP Pro should allow us to create a multiple user in VPN! I found this in another one of my Dummies books. "Wireless all in one reference for Dummies" which I am certainly one.... Pages 315 thru 324 show how to set up both the remote client and the main machine. I would love anyone's feedback on this and to see if anyone else has done it and with what results.
If time allows, now that I finally have really good internet (Fios) at home, I may give this a whirl over the next week or two. But I have some questions.
1) should I use, do I have to use Mac address cloning or what have you to give my router (firewall) the address of the target (main receiving) computer?
2) I have a static IP at the office and it is I gather the static IP of the cable modom (time warner at the office, fios at the house)so how does all of that play into the IP address I want the off-site client to be looking for? Do I give it the static IP from TW, create a static IP for the main P2P server back at the office, both?, what about the IP or mac address of the any of the three units.
The way I see this is the connection sort of needs to get thru a number of doors and so how to tell the client how and which one is probably key here. So how and when does one use and assign which IP's and or MAC Addresses? Any assistance here would be really, really appreciated folks. Any other brave souls out there??? Vinny are you listening my dear moderator friend and highly technically intelligent friend????
Anyway, I will try to get some time at both the office and the home to get this up and running as it is one of Nancy's largest requests and needed features.... Wish me luck....
Paul
