I agree.
I have been using the browser version for UPDOX all day today. I find the desktop version to be much faster, easier, and more intuitive to use overall. Here are some of the things I found that I can do in the Desktop (java) version that I either can't do at all in the browser version, or at least not as well. Don't get me wrong, I like having the option of the browser version, particularly when I am away from the office, but it needs significant improvement to be able to replace the desktop version. I hope someone in UPDOX notices this and makes some improvements.
1. You can -tab- your way throughout the desktop version without ever using the mouse. Pressing -tab- will move to the next obvious selection (Can't in browser version; even where tab works, it skips entire sections such as "category" or "Notify physician")
2. Spacebar works as <mouseclick> for the radio buttons and menu buttons. (does not work in browser version. You have to move the mouse over and click it)
3. You can also use arrow keys in drop-down menus. (You can't in browser version; you have to use the mouse)
4. You can type the first letter of an option in a drop-down menu and it will select it. If there is more than one option starting with that letter, pressing the same letter in the keyboard will move down to the next option. (Can't do this in browser version; mouse only)
5. When desktop version of updox opens windows or sub menus, the cursor appears in the correct input box. For example, select "send to EHR" and the cursor appears in the "Title" input box already. In browser version you have to click the input box manually with the mouse, which means you have to remove your hands of the keyboard.
6. Similar to number 4. In both browser and desktop version, you only need to type the partial name of patient or contact. For example. I often just type the first 3 letters of the first and last name. So, for Jonathan Johnson, I would type jon joh and usually get the right patient or contact, depending on which input box I use. However, with the desktop version you only have to type jon joh and when the right patient is the only option, pressing enter selects it for you. In the browser version you have to enter jon joh, and even if the right patient is the only option you have to press down arrow twice to select the patient, then press enter.
7. When using tab or arrow keys in Desktop version the selected option is highlighted well. In the browser version the selected option highlight is very faint, easily missed, and is not available for every option.
8. Desktop version separates patient input boxes from contacts. I find it works much better than the single input box in the browser version.
There are some bugs as well. I'm using IE 11 in windows 7 pro.
--when you select a document, type a name, x it out, un-select the document, then select it again, the previously entered name is still there. This happens even if you select a new document.
--sometimes when I select several pages in a document and click send, all the pages are sent, instead of the ones I selected. I tried discarding, unselecting, and reselecting the pages several times to no avail. I have even tried selecting another document entirely. Closing and restarting the secure sessions clears it.
