I am RETIRING and another group is taking over my practice, how do I give them a copy of my patient records.

I need to transfer my main computer which hosts the AC Sequel & all AC data from Office to home to work on the accounts receivables, etc.... The Host Computer is a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

Has any one heard of/experienced this situation, any ideas to help.

Thanks

One way is to give them a copy of the program and let them pull up patients as needed.

Another would be to start printing to PDF summaries of all the patients, much more time consuming and costly.

Depending on what system they are using, it may be possible to export data to their system. I don't know about this and would recommend you talk to someone at AC, (or Indy or James or Sandeep)

Since they are taking over your practice, it should be negotiable as to how they receive the records, but the expense, I feel, should be on them. Part of buying your practice could include buying your AC license, which you permanently own.

Thanks Wendell for your post.
"One way is to give them a copy of the program"
How do I do this ?, I need the charts at my home to work on the receivables and the denials. Is there a way I can give them another copy ? Please explain.

They need only a SEE ONLY Copy to get patient history & to know what went on while the patient was in my care , as they have their own EMR they will be using, which they use.

I have not heard back yet from the Tech Support about this question.

You can install AC on multiple computers. They have one in their office and you have one at home. The one at home (or the one in the office if you are keeping the main computer) is installed with a backup copy of the database, so both have the same information.

Your need to do insurance clean up will be relatively brief. You should have a copy of your records in case of lawsuit after but that's relatively unlikely.

IN MY OPINION (not necessarily AC's) you should not need an additional license because it is still all related to the same practice and you are not using it actively in either case to prescribe/practice medicine. It is strictly for accessing old records. It really is the same practice, albeit different owner. That being said, let us know what AC states.

Your need to do insurance clean up may not be brief. I closed my practice 18 months ago....still getting requests for records from Anthem Advantage, still getting requests from Medicare. Somehow Medicare could not find me to pay me my 2013 MU payment but they were able to find me to tell me I owed them a refund for an overpayment.
