I have the TSP800 and it's a pain to set up. Mine worked great for a year and now it just prints all over the paper where ever it wants to. Usually it's not off that bad so it's usable. When it works it can't be beat. I have the ethernet one. As far as I know the only difference between the Rx and the regular version is a lock to keep people from opening the printer and taking the paper, and the advance button is locked out too for the same reason.

I'm still on version 6.5 something I believe.

Have one. The initial setup is difficult but there is information on this board on how to correctly set it up. I have the network version, but only use it attached to my computer via USB. Since I use it only for schedule Rx's it would be best to have it on one computer. I do not use it for regular Rx's which are sent via E-prescribing. I have the TSP files if you cannot find them. I have moved the printer to different computers in the past and after awhile installation is a breeze. It is now connected to a Windows 7 computer.

Hope this helps.

I think with Narcotics being e-prescribed after March this will be an obsolete device.

from personal experience, I'd recommend the TSP800 (with Ethernet) set it up on your network and then any computer you need to print to it from to generate your prescription can access it without issue.

Star TSP 800 printers are great once they are configured. I have bought several from eBay and you don't need the locking (medical) version. I haven't had any mechanical problems, and my staff loves the rapid Rx printing! If you get one and need help configuring the printer, here is the information.

thanks for all the good info. i'm almost out of rx paper for my laserjet. should change or just by some more paper then see how erx of controlled subs goes.

i'd like erx for controlled, but i'll believe it when i see it. each state is particular and it'll take ac some time to get to ohio.

once in place it might be easier to print the controlled rx rather than erx. we shall see, i have little confidence in the state pharm board and feds.

printing is a good excuse to have the patients come in more frequently to reflect the risk and work of checking state narcotic rx history sites.

Networking it is helpful. One sits at the reception desk, the other at MA desk. All versions work the same by the way.

It is helpful (for us) to be able to print from any computer. I like to be able to print from any room and have my receptionist go over them and stamp the three scripts. I can then sign them and give them to the patient.

My MA having one is crucial. When she triages ADHD patients, she prints out the scripts and clips them to the chart. I can then walk in, ask how things are and give the scripts to the patient. I don't even log into the computer. And, the entire visit literally takes less than one minute.

Plus, my receptionist (she is an MA) can print scripts that need to be signed for the day.

It is a difficult printer to set up, but not quite as hard as everyone says.

Bert you need to remote in and check mine out. I have no idea why it acts the way it does. I set it up exactly like ryanjo's instructions but it still prints all over the place. I love the thing...maybe I have the wrong driver version or something. frown
