Hi everyone,
Happy holidays!
Anyone with a recommendation for a decent shredder that will last a while? We typically get them from Staples, they last a few years and burn out.
I searched this forum for "shredders", found a post from several years ago started by Bert, very funny but no real recommendations (except for campfires, burn barrels, and wood chippers!)
Thanks.

We hire a shredding company. We fill a large (96 gallon) bin, and they come once per month and shred the papers, and the shredded paper is burned at their company site. It's a bit pricey ($20/month) but we don't have to deal the hassle/mess of shredding our own stuff and putting it in the trash.

Make sure you have a business HIPPA agreement and that they are certified.

I do what NeuroDawg does for shredding. $15.00 a month. They shred hard drives for $5.00 a drive. I can't stand the noise of those things.

I had a fancy, expensive, top of the line model that died in about 3-4 years. I just got one from Costco, out of desperation, and it has turned out to be a workhorse. I think it has a 5 year warranty. If I can get 5 years for 100 dollars, that's great. I'd spend 10 times that on a service. We have special baskets for shredding. The receptionist shreds for a few minutes after work each day - no noise during the workday. What is reception time worth? Maybe not worth it.

We use a shredding service, especially after we started disposing of old old charts. They shred every few months or when we call them, and shred in their truck right in the parking lot. One unforseen benefit. They have provided with us locked bins (I have the keys) to put all of our documents for shredding into. On more than one occasion a staff member has had to retrieve a document (for various reasons) which they placed into those bins, which would have been already shredded had we been using a conventional shredder.
