AVG is probably recognizing AC as a virus. This happened with Microsoft Security Essentials some time ago as well. You'll want to add the Amazing Charts folder as an exception.
To exclude a file or folder from the Resident Shield detection:
Open your AVG program. From the Options menu, select Advanced settings. In the left pane, select Exceptions. In the right pane, click Add exception. In the drop-down menu, select exception type - Folder. Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Amazing Charts (if on 64 bit) or C:\Program Files (x86)\Amazing Charts (if on 32 bit) Select whether you want to apply the exception also for other AVG components. Click OK to save details of the exception. Click OK again to save the settings.

These are a few things you could try. Not sure if they will work. Some times a program needs certain prerequisites for it to work such as .NETFramework 3.5, etc. Maybe AVG's upgrade conflicted with one. Just guessing.
Have you run Windows Updates? Are there any outstanding service packs?
Try going to Programs and Features (Win 7) or Add/Remove Programs (Win XP) and right click on AC and run repair.
If this does not work, simply try uninstalling AC and reinstalling.
If unsuccessful, uninstall or turn AVG off. Uninstalling would likely work better. You may need to install AC again.
Run System Restore. If this fixes AC, you may have a non-upgraded AVG, but that would be something you could live with.
Is Windows Installer service running. You can try restarting the service. I don't think re-registering it will help.
Just some ideas.

I would try disabling the resident shield entirely and see if it still pops up. Make sure you right click>Run as administrator on AC.

Glad it is working. But, I will say, there is nothing worse than an intermittent problem.
Did you install any Windows Updates AFTER the problem?

Windows is set for automatic updates but I dont recall any recall seeing any messages indicating that it had updated after the problem. Bala

No different question. Did you update any good updates that would solve the problem. I would go to Windows Updates and run it and see if it finds anything that seems like it may help. you don't have to install it since things are working. But, say it shows NETFramework 3.5 or 4.0, that could be an issue. I am blanking on the name of Framework so I may have it wrong.
Or go into Programs and Features and list which ones you have. Or look in the Updates Windows and look at history of updates.
