] labryantmd: Just updated to v7.1.2 and can no longer find a last note backup when AC freezes up and loses a chart note. Anybody know where it went? Used to be in C:\Program Files (x86)\Amazing Charts

I believe it was broken with the update. It doesn't work for us either, however, at least the file exists. It's just not the right one. It's from the last last (second to last) note backup which obviously is not of use.

Very strange... I checked and indeed, have the same issue
DID YOU REPORT IT???
I did. Actually my note was probably about 4 or 5 notes back, not the ultimate or penultimate. When I checked the log, it did not show that I had worked on that chart or signed it. This also went into the report.
The log is under the admin section. It contains a lot of information about who touched what and when. You don't need it often, but it's good to review it from time to time to see what's going on.
Oh well, another thing to fix......

Apparently this is neither broken nor missing, just changed. Looks like MU2 says that the EMR should not store un-encrypted PHI on a hard drive, and the old "last note file" does not meet that criteria. The good news is that the note should still be available in V7. On your main screen, go to the "View" menu and the last option is "View last note backup". Should give you what you need, though I am not on this version so I cannot verify it. Thanks to Chris Conrad at AC for the info on this.

I hadn't reported it Wendell but now we know what happened. Thank you Jon. A heads-up about the change would have been nice from AC.

That option in the "View" menu didn't work this morning during a crash. It was greyed out! Well what really happened was that the Dr's AC window timed out. He had the patient's chart open and our new MA walked in and shut down AC instead of finding the Dr. to login and save his work. When the Dr. logged into AC did not give an option to resurrect his note. Does anybody know if it can still be saved?

Have you just checked the deleted items in your message box. It may be there. Every office work flow is different. Our MAs do all the triaging in one triage area.
A medical assistant NEVER touches a computer in the room. Plus, the doctor should never leave the compupter without locking the screen. It takes two seconds to use Windows key + L. Or I have a script to lock it with one click.
Also, this ensures that no patient can get into the computer.
But, go to your inbox and see if it is there in the deleted items. Also make SURE that you don't have your AC set to auto-delete the items when you close it.
As a side note, I never close AC. Ever. Sometimes it closes when the computer has to reboot.

I didn't check his deleted items because from what I remember he chose to have them auto-delete upon logout. Anyways he has since retyped his note.
I harped enough about locking windows before leaving the room and I also painted the windows and L key to make it easier to remember. But its hard to remember to log out of AC first. And that was the problem. The MA ignorantly 'shut down' AC to do an EKG. In previous AC versions the Dr's note could have been resurrected or at least found in the last note backup file.

I know leaving hundreds of deleted items in the deleted items folder can slow down AC, but setting a reminder to do so seems better than allowing them all to be auto-deleted. In his case, it probably wouldn't have gone there, but I have had it save me many times.
Why does he need to log out of AC?

The MA works up every new patient in the same room before the Dr comes in. At the end of the visit he may order spirometry, EKG testing etc. so he has to log out so that the MA can return and perform and import those tests.
