Is there any way, in AC or in Updox, to schedule a reminder email/message to a patient. I don't mean a reminder that "reminds me" to message/email the patient. I mean it just automatically sends the message to the patient and is not based on a scheduled appointment.
For example, if the patient received a hepatitis a vaccination, and needed to come back in 6 months but did not want to schedule it while in the office. I'd like to set up a message that in 6 months would automatically be sent to the patient to remind them to come in for their vaccination.

As I remember Wayne, you have an Updox portal, so I'm sure you know that would be the path to be able to do this in a happy hipaa way.
As to the mechanism to set and forget an alarm to do this 6 months in advance, I think that's a bridge too far unless we could pool our ideas and money and have one or some of the tech guys make a sidekick database program for AC? Rube Goldbergesque, but possible.

I think this would be a great idea. Given that we can send a "post dated" message to the staff, I would think it would not be that difficult to program for patients.
I am currently not using updox beyond the free portal. I would suggest someone bring it up with them. I would agree this is the best way to send them messages.

Dan, I do have the Updox portal, but there is no way to do this that I know of. I hoped someone may have seen something that I missed.

I think that it would be great for Updox to add that capability. I would imagine it would be a great feature for all of their ehr partnerships.
Maybe we could get a board going at Updox.
I appreciate that AC wants ideas for future development, and this idea qualifies. AC has to decide how modular they are going to be and what bells and whistles are a core function.
Anything about information flow between us and patients, colleagues, labs, and other facilities would be in the Updox module if it was my choice.
Automating preventative and evidenced based quality care makes a ehr cost effective for us as well as society.

The reminder system in AC will currently send you a reminder to send an email ( I think, I need to try it again). It would be nice if you could compose the email and it would just send it.

You can go to Admin section and export families or patients. Or use search, choose demographics, then inactive, then false and you will get all of your patients. You can then export to Excel in both .xls and .csv and .txt. The latter two can be exported to Outlook. You don't need the address book, but it helps. Outlook is a very powerful tool, and you can set up an email to go today or in ten years. You can make templates, etc. Sure, it isn't directly in AC, but it takes the same amount of time.

I love the ability in Outlook to schedule delayed delivery. Used to have some trouble with it in 2003 version but now using Office 365 with Outlook 2013 and it is flawless.
With that said, Updox would be wise to add this feature at least through their portal system if not regular email.

Sunil,
I don't know anything about UPDOX, but I very much doubt it can message "through" Updox.
There are no POP3 and SMTP protocols for Outlook.
POP3 and SMTP are protocols for incoming and outgoing mail respectively. If you email is being handled by an ISP (Roadrunner, Yahoo, Google, etc.) then you will obtain your email using POP3 when the email program retrieves the email from the mailbox on the ISP server and email will be sent through your ISP using SMTP. Your ISP will give you your POP3 and SMTP. The POP3 and SMTP are not related to Outlook. They are used with any email program such as Eudora and Outlook and Thunderbird. These will be entered into the programs along with a username and password.
As far as webmail, this will all be done behind the scenes. _________
To get a little technical, if one is using Microsoft Exchange, they can setup SMTP to both send and receive. Sending goes through your ISP such as Time-Warner, but unlike POP3, where your email is sent by other people to your ISP and it sits there waiting for you to retrive it every 5, 10 or 15 minutes, email is routed via DNS directly to your Exchange Server and bypasses the ISP altogether.
