My vote is for using that space, and below it on long threads, for advertising to endow a chair for programming and development at AC. I kid you not.

A long thread would be truncated like the recent posts island on the top left. But advertising is not beyond the scope of the software.

I for one would NOT like to see advertising on the user board. I seriously doubt the revenue would be worth the aggravation. Hiring a chair is meaningless unless you have an appropriate agenda. A few universities have not learned this lesson, but most know better. AC has increased it's programming staff significantly in the past several years. It has a direction which has been stated many times including here http://amazingcharts.com/ub/ubbthreads.php/topics/61245/An_Open_Letter_from_John_Squir#Post61245

First, there will be no perfect storm with MU2 colliding with ICD-10. We can wait until the government comes up with HA3 next year.
I do not know where all this is fuss is coming from. I only asked if anyone would be interested in a calendar.
People can clamor for advertising or the top 10 television shows, but they would be disregarded. In fact anything other than a vote for or against a calendar is distracting.

Bert I don't know win8 yet, but, at least in Win7, if you let your eyes continue to scroll to bottom right of screen, the clock, when clicked, is also a calendar. What utility do you anticipate providing for the UB with aforementioned calendar ?

I can't recall a Windows OS that did not have that feature. I never said I see a utility for the calendar. I never recommended the calendar. I simply posted that the feature was there so that users would know about it. As an FYI, most UBB boards use them. And, Unlike the tiny clock in the system tray, this calendar is always there.

My post was not designed to be antagonistic. I think this user board is a fabulous resource, and have great respect for the time and energy you invest for our benefit. If, in any way, my post came across and being negative, my apologies.

No, not at all, I was likely just being thin skinned again. I would say apology well taken, except there is no need for one. But thanks all the same. I did notice that you can click on a button and have a date set on the calendar. Not even sure that would make it worthwhile.

I would say that if you don't have any regular scheduled events such as seminars or podcasts. Then the calendar would not be used for more that announcing birthdays which it also can display. So it would be a waste of page space, other than another recreational feature like the shoutbox.
Now the calendar can be used as a private calendar per user. But most people have a calendar feature on their desktop like outlook, Which is more dynamic in use for multiple recipients.
Also a island for advertising could be useful to the site. I don't mean generic advertising, but ad's by amazing charts for new applications or releases for the product. So they are a reminder of what new products that Amazing Charts offers.
