Hey, I only just recently got around to posting this issue, even though it's been plaguing us for at least a year. Every so often, when Amazing Charts is closed and re-launched on a few of our machines, it appears to forget its configuration, and brings up the "Welcome to Amazing Charts" message and asks for the DB location. Is there a permanent solution? I can't keep RDPing into the machines every day to navigate to the databases...

Have you tried mapping the shared drive as a mapped drive that reconnects on startup?
That is the easiest way to handle AC not locating the path.

I am not sure I am completely following you. When you refer to the message, do you mean this one. ![[Linked Image from ]](/ub/attachments/usergals/2013/12/full-4-564-ac_message.png) If so, I am confused why you are using RDP all day rather than browsing to the XML file in the AC folder. Because I would say at least then that the odds of your having to close and relaunch AC would be minimal. Indy's answer will likely work for you. Similarly, you should make sure your main computer with AC and SQL on it has a static IP address. Although static IPs usually have a lease longer than a day. One could always talk about the firewall, but then you should never be able to access the database. Also, make sure your shares and permissions on the AC folder on the server is shared to everyone or authenticated users and give everyone full permissions or at least read/write. Again, this should either have worked or not worked. Check you .xml file in the AC folder under AmazigCharts.xml and see if the path seems correct. Finally, this topic came up just last week: http://amazingcharts.com/ub/ubbthreads.php/topics/58511/Cannot_access_the_main_compute#Post58511

By RDPing, I mean that I keep needing to RDP into the machines to navigate to AmazingCharts.xml every time someone complains that it's not working.
I tried to map the network drive, and I did check "Reconnect on Startup", but it still refuses to reconnect at startup and prompts for a password at boot. The main computer doesn't have a static IP, but the IP it's assigned via DHCP is fixed from the router.

Still confused. Usually DHCP gives a dynamic IP, hence the D, lol.
I suppose I need to know why you RDP into machines instead of just being in front of them. I realize there are reasons...

If you could do printscreens or snippets. For instance on the password.
I think it would be a good idea to go into the NIC settings and set up a static/fixed IP. Use the same IP it has given it.
Copy an ipconfig /all to a post.
Copy and post an amazingcharts.xml
If people are complaining, teach them how to browse to the .xml file. My staff has done it for years.

Are the machines Home Editions or Pro Editions? Do they have something in common? (E.g. WiFi?)

Good questions. I bet anything they are WiFi. Not putting anyone down if they are.

I suppose I wasn't exactly clear on why RDP is involved. I have to remote in to these machines to fix them every time AC fails to launch, since I'm sitting one Great Lake away. The machines are connected via Ethernet and run Win7 Home Premium.
The router (a re-purposed G5 running Linux) is configured to provide the same IP any machines that re-connect based on their MAC addresses. Would it still help to actually configure the main computer with a static IP? I'll post images next time someone sends me a message asking me to fix it.
Do you want an ipconfig of the client or the main computer?

Both, but definitely make it static. That will take one part out of the loop. I feel your pain now. But, I would teach them. Then can only find one .xml file.

You may want to check the permissions in Amazing Charts folder on the server. I had same problem, program not able to find/access AmazingCharts.xml file, after the SBS2011 server upgrade, twice, and we had to change the permissions of the Amazing Charts folder to Everyone. And do it for every subfolder.
Right click the folder>properties>security>edit>add>Everyone
And then give them full control of the folder. Start Amazing Charts and point it to the.xml file folder.
