This is a heads-up for others; wouldn't have believed it until I heard it.

I had a client text me on a Saturday evening in a bit of an upset, asking my opinion on a call he had just gotten.

A guy representing himself as being from Microsoft called the Doc's cell phone to report that his M$ license was being broadcast from multiple places on the West Coast.

the "rep" wanted the Doc to start a remote support connection session so that he can "help" him. It was bad quality VOIP call from an Indian call center.

The Doc felt a little hinky about this and hit me up.

I warned him off, and suggested that if he called back, to get his contact info and the Doc's IT folks would follow-up.

The scammer had gonads, he called the Doc back, and identified himself as John Martin {really?!?} in Seattle with a number 806-275-9801 {rural TX}

I got one of those calls two years ago. This situation has been going on for some time.

I had one of them call about a month ago. I listened politely when they said my computer was phoning home to M$ about a problem. Then he said we are a third party, and someone from your home signed up for computer support, M$ would not call you. I commented that if it called him then it must be a virus and he must have sent it. He hung up. My mother in law had a similar call, she said I handle all that and asked for his number for me to call back. It was an 800 number (to a plumbing supply) he randomly gave out.
