I might have missed something here but I recently upgraded to Updox Central. Wish I would have installed this earlier.

With this version, you can print to Updox from a computer on the network that doesn't have Updox installed.

Just thought I'd pass this along to my fellow Updox users who didn't know about this feature.

Marty, how does one go about doing this? When do you print from a computer that does not have Updox?

There is virtual Updox printer that has to be installed on individual computers and it prints to shared work space in Updox.

I hadn't realized that Updox Central was a "hidden gem".

Go to the support site, and search for "installing Updox Central" or this==> Updox Central

That allows you to have an Updox printer on the server.

That printer is addition to local printers on machines that have it installed.

Another trick is that you can have multiple UC installed in different environments, so you can Updox Central printers in multiple locations, and upload faxes from one location, files from another location.

There is also a new Updox installer to resolve some of the issues that come from Oracle constantly jacking with Java.

I hadn't thought about multiple UC installs in different locations.

We have 18 PC's on our network but only 3 Updox users. It was a pain at times to log into Updox to be able to print to it. Now just hit print button and it's done. I told Tobin they should be promoting it more to it's users. Very useful feature

Can you explain this to me in more detail, please?
In your initial post, Marty, you say you can print from a computer that "that doesn't have Updox installed"... I assume that also means it can be installed, but not running?
We just had Updox Central installed. Do I need to do something more to enable this? Do I use the same old "Updox printer" that I always had?

And Indy, I am unclear about the advantage of more than one Updox Central printer. Can you elaborate on that a bit, please..

Jon,

We have 3 users for Updox. There are occasions where if I wanted to print something to Updox, I would have to start Updox on that particular PC and then print to Updox.

Now with Updox Central, I can print from any computer on our network to Updox that doesn't even have Updox installed. Updox can be installed on that computer and not running when you print. Does that make sense?

Case in point, I download a radiology report from a website. If I'm in the room with a patient, to import it I would either use a PDF printer (drop and drag into AC) or I would have to start Updox and then once I was logged in, I would print it to Updox for filing. Now I just have UPDOX CENTRAL as the default printer and anything I print using this goes right into the Updox workspace. No saving file as and dropping and dragging or endless mouse clicks.

In essence Jon, LESS CLICKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To enable this, you have to go into the settings in Updox Central. Then you have to install a new printer driver different that the Updox Printer you usually use. I believe the information is on their website on how to set this up.

Here's the link to the install:

We have used Updox Central for about a year and it works very well.

You install Updox Central on only one computer, because it can have only one connection with Amazing Charts database. Then you map UpDox Central as a printer that you share over the network. So any terminal on the network can print to that shared UpDox printer, without Updox being installed or open on the terminal. Every thing that you print on Updox Central printer shows up in Updox Workspace, no mater where you have UpDox workspace open, even in a different location.

On UpDox Central you can also set up a default UpDox Upload folder. You can share that Default UpDox Upload folder over the network. When you scan anything on any of the client computers, point it towards the shared UpDox upload folder, then every thing you scan on any of the terminals will show up in the UpDox workspace.

UpDox Central is also very useful if you have multiple office locations because you can print something on UpDox printer in one office, then open UpDox workspace in another location and print on actual printer from that location.

I do not know how we managed without UpDox or UpDox Central all this time!

I like the option provided by the Updox Central shared printer, installed as SanjeevP describes above. But it's not all good news if you have non-Windows machines on your network. Even working with tech support from Updox, I could not reliably use the shared printer installed on a networked PC, from a Mac on the same network. Perhaps permissions, shares, firewalls, etc. But it didn't work.

I have to try the setup again, it seems that Updox Central is a newer version now.

on Mac OS, the only way to use UpDox printer is to have the UpDox program running on your computer. For some reason, my MacBook air, does not see the shared network UpDox central printer.
