My NP just asked me a question I could not answer.
We have patients that are G6PD deficiency. Should it be put as an allergy?
My response was to list Septra and free text G6PD, but after that 2 things happened. 1) The listing for No Known Drug Allergies did NOT disappear 2)free text for G6PD did not appear in the allergy line.
Tried searching allergies for G6PD but to no avail.
Recommendations?????

The problem is how to set an alert so we are aware when Rxing. The best solution would be in the allergy section but....
The patient we were discussing WAS anemic, but not now. We could use one of the flags, but they are easier to miss.

Hi Wendell,
When we free text allergies, the "NKDA" may or may not disappear, sometimes it must be manually removed.
You should be able to save a free text allergy. It will appear italicized, and will not participate in interaction/allergy checking.
This is for AC 6.1.2.

Gene, I agree with everything you stated.
I didn't think about JUST free texting it, but that is probably the best solution. We had put the free text under Septra and while Septra showed up the free text of G6PD did not.

I guess. I don't think I have looked for G6PD outside of an unexplained hyperbilirubinemia.
