Looks like there's a few AK docs here; I'm setting up an IM clinic in Anch soon, and wondering if there's any strong opinions on differences between LabCorp, Quest and Prov's lab services there - TAT's, billing, etc? I've been using Quest in Seattle for a few years...

We're in Fairbanks, so I don't know how much that helps you, but we use Quest. It's partly a matter of convenience as they're just downstairs from us, but also they seem to want to make us happy most of the time and the labs import well to AC. Labcorp isn't as accessible here and other than the hospital, that's about all of our choices. That being said, we're pretty happy with Quest.

Oh, and it's been really easy to get billing issues for our patients addressed and handled with a simple email to our Quest rep.

I know that we have an account set-up for special services that they bill us for, so I don't see why that would be different. When we order services to billed to the account, we put the account information on the lab request. I would think there could be something similar for you to be billed for your patients.

I was with Labcorp for three years in Alaska, but eventually I felt I was kind of forgotten about by the reps. We also had some problems with processing of our labs in Seattle - they were very quick to throw out a specimen when the label fell off in the bag or on other technicalities. I wrote a big explanation and "Dear John" letter to Labcorp, but never heard back from the reps. Meanwhile, the Quest rep kept visiting, and when our contract ran out I decided to give Quest a try. Our local rep has been very helpful and stopped by many times to help us on various issues and make sure we have the right supplies.

Sounds like sticking with Quest is a good idea. Blues plan pay well for labwork?

We have no trouble with the Blues paying for lab tests. As a matter of fact, in general we have no trouble with the Blues at all here. Probably the easiest insurance we work with.
