I know this has been addressed before, so please forgive me. I just got a progress note that the VA wants me to go through and sign each page because I cannot find a way to send paper records to them that make them happy. I told them I could send the electronic form, but they said it still has to say "electronically signed". Aggghhhhh, tax dollars "not" at work.

Agree with Dave
An insurer or payor could demand their money back if not signed. A court could demand a legal signature. I think everything else is a request.

Download a free pdfill editor - I downloaded pdfill.com and you can print to that pdf printer - then quickly use their free TOOLS to add a HEADER or FOOTER that says electronically signed by: xxxxxxx, print to pdf then you can print, fax or electronically send them this. I think it is dumb but could be accomplished easily I think.

I still use the Electronically Signed By Doctor Firstname Lastname, M.D.
Which gives you:
Electronically signed by Doctor Firstname Lastname, M.D.
Except I use Digitally, 'cause round here, Digitally proves that I signed it where Electronically doesn't.
It won't sign every page you print out, though. But, it does make signing requisitions much easier.

The only reason I would go ahead and do this for someone who is not paying me or legally binding me to do it would be to help my vet pt get some medicine they won't now pay for.

Currently using Amazing Charts Version 6.5.5
The electronic signature when printed out just has the provider name and the date and time it was signed.
This seems to be a change from prior versions. The prior versions said "electronic signature"
From what I read, it needs to say "electronically signed by" or similar verbage, in addition to the providers name, date and time.

I don't know what is stupider. The fact that organizations like the VA cannot see that typing or stamping or whatever "Digitally signed by" or "Electronically signed by" makes your sighnature any more valid than a simple signature. If it didn't take so long, I would write "Written in ink by..." To show how passive-aggressive I am, and I am being considered for the human gene pool for that gene, when I get a paper asking for a "wet signature," I actually sign it and pour water over it. Given that different entities want different versions, e.g. digital vs electronic, eventually I will get to "Digitally AND Electronically signed by..."

HAHAHA! Talk about passive-aggressive! But I approve. Today I got the 4th request from the company that took over Liberty Medical's accounts for diabetic info on a patient that transferred his care out of town 4 years ago. The first three times I politely told them I was no longer his physician and faxed it back. This time I allowed the staff to express their creativity and artistic talent by decorating the request form with a variety of non-pornographic graffiti and we faxed it back to the company over twenty times today. Wonder if that will get anyone's attention?

Leslie,
If you had included a little pornographic graffiti, it may have ended up at the Guggenheim!!!!

The records clerk wanted to lecture me about the importance of a signature!
