After a frustrating slow Friday amazing charts was running extremely slow. A chat with tech support and remote log in they come to the fact there is nothing wrong with the program or the computer and they could not help. I got thinking what if I instal an instance of hyper V on my server ( currently running windows 2008 SBS, Intel Xeon E620 @ 2.4Ghz 2 processors with 64Gb of RAM) a spare windows 7 pro and have just Amazing charts and its SQL running on that machine only. Leaving the server to work on AD, Exchange, Fax server etc.
Would this be a good idea or should I save up for Windows 2008/2012 and have the hyper V machine also running 2008/2012?

Are you running the Hyper-V role on the SBS box or is the SBS box a Hyper-V guest?

The server has 2008 SBS running currently. I was thinking of having the virtual (hyper V) machine as windows 7 just for amazing charts or would it be better for the virtual machine to be 2008/2012. I was looking at speed issues and thus thinking if the virtual machine only ran Amazing charts only and the SQL it needs.
Leaving the main machine to run all the other processes.

You cannot use SBS 2008 as a Hyper-V host.

If you purchased SBS 2008 with the Premium Add-on, you can use the extra copy of Windows Server 2008 as the Hyper-V host and then virtualize both the SBS 2008 and another copy of Windows Server 2008 to use as the Amazing Charts server. This set up would involve no more license fees as you already have all the licenses you need.

If you do not have the Premium Add-on, you would need to purchase a copy of Windows Server 2008/2008 R2/2012. Your choice.

To be honest, with that much power on your machine, performance should not be an issue. I'd like to take a look at it.

I'd be happy for you to have a look and see. I have the standard 2008 SBS. So That is the reason for asking
