I have been anxiously awaiting the release of the practice management module for AC but at a point now with my old system where I need to change. I am exploring using a billing service, office ally, or should I continue to wait for the AC version? Is there anyone who uses Office Ally who would be able to tell me about their experience? Could my office manager discuss it with anyone?

Thanks in advance.

Aaron

Speaking of Office Ally, anyone out there using their free patient portal, Patient Ally? Or tried their EHR, 24/7 ($30/month)?

I have not used this company at all, but I am also curious about their solutions for clearinghouse and practice management.

It appears that they have a full suite of medical office programs available, either free or at very low cost.

I am using OA to send claims. I still use my previous PM program as a PM program. Duplicate work but good results. OA has been nearly flawless. The most it has cost me was $19/month because I do send a lot of Medicare claims. They otherwise use a free clearinghouse. I am not sure its ability to produce reports and practice analysis is quite sufficient but I use my PM program for that. But, in all honesty I have not really tried OA in all it's various modes. I have looked into the patient portal and I have set up an account but really do not use it. I do however think it would meet the Medicare guidelines. If I were to leave AC, I believe this is where I would look. I would suggest you simply try a few patients, start to finish and see how it works for you. It is too bad AC could not have gotten together with OA to make a complete package for both. OA will never be the EHR that AC is and AC will never be the PM that OA is.

I use them for PM, have not looked at the portal yet. Friend of mine uses them for EMR. She is happy. I looked, IMHO - POC. Not even comparable to AC. .

thank you all for the input! I am still kind of unclear what Office Ally's billing model consists of, it appears that they submit claims for free, but Leslie, You say you are charged $19 monthly, how exactly do they charge?

I did a little more investigation regarding the OfficeAlly offerings. The portal is only for those who are using their EMR product. I was hoping it could be used with AC since we have heard nothing about adding a portal. The portal is a requirement for Stage II MU in 2014.

And, Aaron, from their website:

What are the set-up fees, monthly fees, and per-claim fees?
A: There are no set-up fees, monthly fees or per-claim fees for electronic claims submission! We are essentially a free clearing house. An optional printing service is available to our users; for $0.40 per claim we will print and mail any HCFAs that cannot be sent electronically (i.e. the insurance company is not on our payer list or your pre-enrollment is not completed for that insurance company). This printing service is optional - you select whether you would like this feature or not. The only exception to this is users who send us primarily Governmental claims (i.e. Medicare, Medicaid/Medi-Cal, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of some states). If more than 50% of your monthly claim volume is made up of those payers (indicated by a "G" in the Type column of our Payer List), then the service is a flat fee of $19.95 per month plus any printing charges, if applicable. There are no fees for customer service or technical support, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
