Hi everyone,
Somewhat crazy thought:
What if, for whatever reason, this board shut down or significantly changed? How would we/could we keep in touch with each other?
This board is not only a source of help and information about AC. It has been invaluable with ideas, inspiration, and support about medicine, technology, finance, and life in general. I have never personally met anyone who posts here, but I consider you all to be friends.
Would anyone consider designating another forum to be the "backup" if this were no longer available? Perhaps Sandeep or someone with similar tech savvy could set something up?
Yes, I realize I am being very paranoid!
Thanks. Gene

We have provided websites with forums for the last couple of ACUCs and one of the domains that we have is ACUsers.com
There hasn't been significant enough interest for us to invest further in it, but we have a basic mobile app (Android-iOS) for folks to keep in touch and interact.
If there is interest in either, we can invest further.

Gene,
I have derived the same benefit as you from this board, with both real and virtual relationships.
I don't think you are especially paranoid. The sale of AC to Pri-Med and the lack of communication about what is happening with updates/new versions has made all of us uneasy.
As we know, it is always wise to have a backup plan!
I hope that the "powers that be" recognize what a support and strength this board has been for AC. Eliminating or restricting it would be short-sighted.

Hi everyone,
Another thought:
If anyone wants to PM me with their email address, I will keep these in a "Just in case, to be activated only if AC user board dies" file and send everyone all of the email addresses in that situation.
Needless to say, I will not give the email addresses to spammers!

With his dedication to the board and strong feelings about backing up, I just assumed that Bert was backing up the entire AC User Board every night.

The user board is backed up every night.
I would think the best place as much as I hate it/them would be Facebook or Google+
Even saw Indy on the latter.

Just a thought or idea if everyone were serious. I could set up a forum just like this that would be completely separate. You could go there if you wished even within a few weeks.
I could do this if you wished. The cost is fairly negligible. Let me know. Would have to look at the overall costs.

I really hope all this is unnecessary. I don't see why, even if AC shut down, they would kill the user board. Bert, you know more about this than most of us. If you think it is a good idea, I would back you. We could have one set up and not really use it unless it became necessary. I like the idea of a life line because I sure would feel lonely and cast adrift if something happened to AC and this user board. I would have expected Dr Bertman to have piped up and said something like "Dudes, chill out. The board's not going anywhere and neither is AC." His silence IS somewhat disconcerting.

Message boards cost money, so if AC went down, I doubt they would continue to foot the bill. I wouldn't make too much out of JB's silence. I don't mean this is a negative way, but JB has a track record for staying silent even on important things. I doubt he will worry about this.

Hi Bert,
I would encourage you to do this, and I would be willing to make a contribution to it.
It is likely that changes will be coming to AC. We will grumble. Will the new management want this to be aired in public?
If a new board is set up, I would register, bookmark it, and do nothing else. If this board ever ceased to have a free and open discussion, I would then switch.

AC is not going under. We won't be forced to the cloud. Pri-Med will not put ads on your screen. And MOST importantly, this board will not be taken down. Just have a little faith.
