In the last month or so, I've been seeing this black box window called taskeng.exe popping up. Anyone know why? Is there a way to stop it? It's annoying. I can't do much about V7, but thought maybe I could fix this issue. :-)

John,

Always helpful to have a little more information such as OS, client?, Server, if so, what kind. Domain vs P2P, etc. smile

OK, when you open your Task Manager, do you see anything like "Stop if computer ceases to be idle" option. If so, see below.

Is the Task Engine as a process working to allow Task Scheduler to run? Task Engine = taskeng.exe. Are there any scheduled events that are not running or can you correlate the time of the error message with an event? So, is taskeng.exe under image name in Task Manager?

What errors are you seeing in Event Viewer under Microsoft System? If anything to do with task scheduler or taskeng.exe, further research it.

It is located in System32, so you could just kill it, but I wouldn't recommend it as your task scheduler may not working. Of course, if you just renamed it, you could always put it back. But, that may be a lot of events.

If you do have the "Stop if computer ceases....option," run the above.

Thanks Bert for taking the time to help me try and sort this out!
The problem is showing up on my HP laptop with Windows 7 that acts as my P2P server.
I don't see "Stop if computer ceases to be idle" in Task Manager.
The rest of what you suggested, I'm afraid, went soaring over my head. I'll have to ask my IT guy to look at it the next time he comes out.

Best wishes to all in Brewer.

John

Thanks. It is a bit confusing. Try stopping a schedule one by one and see if it stops. I wouldn't delete it or move it or change the name, because there are a lot of scheduled events you may not know about.
