Hi all,
Is it possible to indicate drugs that are newly prescribed and have them show on a note?

Secondly, it appears that when a scrip is written, it goes in to "today's" note as if the patient is already on it. Shouldn't that new scrip appear in the subsequent note?

Hi John,

This all depends on where you write the note. Any prescription done on the left will show up as if it were already in the chartg when the patient arrived. Anything you write in the scrip writer on the right will appear in the plan. It will not show up in the current medications.

A few versions ago, clicking in either box or writer, brought up the same script writer making it rather difficult. Now, if you click on the current medications window, you will get a medication window which is more for reconciling meds or adding medications the patient was put on by someone else or an OTC med so it does indicate the patient came to the visit on that medication. There are a few quirks, but I will keep it simple for now.

Sorry that this partially duplicates a response I wrote to another question, from richf771 in the Meaningful Use sub-forum, but it is very relevant here.

If you write a prescription, then reconcile the current medication list after the prescription is written, it will show up on the "Current Medications" list, as if they were on the med when they came to see you, instead of the reality of it being started by you during that visit. You cannot go back and correct a current medication list entry after you have written a prescription without fouling up the pre-visit medication list with the new prescription. If there is a way around this, I would love to know it, anyone have any input?
