Does anyone know of a good image organizer software you could recomend. I take a lot of fluoro images that I store as Bitmap images. I wanted to store them in amazing charts but it seems to slow down the software. Do you know of any image organizing/storage software that could be run from a server and would allow me to set up patient files and dates so I could search the images that way?

PainMD:

I did a search through old posts on this message board, and couldn't find anything helpful (though I may have overlooked something).

I know there have been some discussions of photo-related programs in our discussions of including patient photos in the chart. There have also been some discussions about organization of scanned text images (TIFF's and PDF's) that may be relevant.

You could try the search engine on this site and see if you could find something I overlooked. Alternately, you might ask the same question on this site:

or this one:

If you find a good product, please share what you find on our forum. I'm sure there are others who are having/have had the same problem.

How big is the file you are storing? I take tons of clinical pictures of patients pathology. It is not uncommon for me to have 20 or more pictures of ulcers and infections on a patient. We use a Canon elf SD600 and store the files in JPEG format taking up no more than 50 or so KB each in imported items. I have over 3,500 patients on AC so far and no problem. We have a separate software program for X-rays by "TigerView" that stores the X-Rays in a separate file. These X-rays are closer to 1meg but again, no problems so far. It is not stored in AC but that is no different than having a separate X-Ray filing room

Do I understand that you have many thousands of small JPEGs imported into AC without slowdown? That is very impressive.

Do you back them up using the Offsite Upload? If not, what kind of backup system do you use?

Happy belated birthday, BTW.

Brian;
We have a mirror RAID system (exact duplicate on two hard drives)on a peer to peer network with about 14 computers attached (six treatment areas). Data is routed thru a 3COM Switch. We back up to an 8 gig jump drive every night, back that up to an external hard drive and I have a laptop that I sync to the server three times a week. We have about 3,600 patients now. Many thousands of pictures, taken with a Canon elf SD600 in the lowest resolution which looks excellent on a 19 inch screen.
We HAVE recently experieced some problems with crashing since we added TIGERVIEW digital X-rays. The X-rays are kept in a different file on the same server. Have not yet figured out why the crashes. Am working on it with my IT expert.
Thanks for the Bday note. Still kicking and running 1/2 marathons at 61.

Sync? As in Amazing Synchronization? Have you had any problems with it?

We have had a lot of talks about Sync, and Bert has found that if you delete items on your office computer while someone is using is away using their laptop, and then you synchronize, that the deleted items seem to come back.

This is discussed in detail here:

My response has been to tell my staff not to delete things while I'm gone! (Well, they don't know how, anyway).

I use the following technique to synchronize:

at least until I have a chance to learn how to use SyncToy!
