Hi all. I'm somewhat new to AC, and I'm still trying to figure out what the best way to do things are. The doctor I'm helping is coming from a paper/Medisoft combination (Medisoft is like a glorified version of quickbooks that doesn't work as well), and I'm wondering about the accounting functions of AC. AC seems to store what is owed on an encounter by encounter basis, but I haven't found any running totals for a given patient or anything like that. We don't need anything complex, and AC seems like it's >90% of the way there. Mainly, we need to be able to see at a glance the full amount that is owed by a patient/their insurance, and record when charges have been paid.
We're looking into using EZ Claim as well, which seems as though it can handle accounting, but it also seems a bit messy, so if it's not necessary it might be nice to avoid it.
Thanks in advance, Eric

Well, AC is an EMR, not a PMS. What accounting functions that are present are rudimentary at best. Now, rumor is that an initial PM module will be released in 2008, but I don't know. AC is somewhat overdue for their newest release (typically quarterly). This usually indicates that the release will be a major one and has suffered delays (as major software changes frequently due if you want the major bugs out). But it could be anything from porting from MS Access to SQL to the release of a PM module.
