Had a phone call from a patient reporting a new allergy. Is there a way to add this to chart without creating an encounter? We saved the message as an addendum but I'd like to actually change it in the allergies section.

R click on the pt. Pull up Summary sheet. Click on Allergies. Add the new allergy.

Or R-click name, bring up scrip writer and click on allergies - will let you add then you can just close.

Also great- I love the fast response from the members! Sometimes I'm just stuck on an issue and staring and clicking around AC and it's just easier to ask on the board!

Yeah, using addendum would be a sure fire way to prescribe an allergic med. Actually, changing meds and allergies is one of, if not the only, thing you can change without making a new encounter.

Glad you got it solved.

It would be helpful if the allergy (adverse effect) list actually listed the allergic reaction or adverse reaction. The printed note or chart summary does not list these and this is really the information that is needed when dealing with a patient.

you are right it is not listed in the chart note. You can obviously click on allergies to see what the adverse reaction was. If you need to communicate that to another MD, it is listed if you print out the CCR which is always a good thing to send along anyway.
