Anyone recommend a good label printer that I could use to print mailing labels from AC or from an excel document that I can export from the AC demographics section? We also work with a direct mailing company and they supply us with a list of addresses every month, so I want to start to do some postcard mailings so a label printer would be sweet.
What would be better, USB or a LAN connected one?
Thanks guys!

DYMO printer. Export addresses from AC. You can use Amazing Labels free to do other things with the addresses, etc.

I second it - Dymo printer, USB attached and use Amazing Labels (free from Bert). I am amazed how many times this has been recommended and Bert says hardly anyone uses it. It is great and once you start using it you will wonder how you lived without it.

My staff loves it. Great for labels on lab specimens.

I agree. Thanks guys. LAN if you want to print from any computer. DYMOs are so cheap, you may as well go with USB. Can always share from there. The software which comes with the DYMO is helpful as well and must be installed anyway. Personally, to not use all three makes no sense. http://www.medwaresoftware.com/FAP is OK with any version. VIPER is down temporarily. And, I do think that David and Steven are the only ones who use it. Bizarre.

I would highly recommend the DYMO 450 Professional: http://sites.dymo.com/demo/enus/450Basic/For address labels: http://sites.dymo.com/solutions/pages/Labels.aspx?cid=1015%28DYMO%29&SegId=Office%28DYMO_US1%29&gid=1003%28DYMO%29&Stype=solution For lab labels: http://sites.dymo.com/solutions/pages/Labels.aspx?cid=1023%28DYMO%29&SegId=Office%28DYMO_US1%29&gid=1003%28DYMO%29&Stype=solution If I could find both, I could give you the actual numbers. They have added a lot.

@Scott,
I am sure Sanjeev's works fine. It's just that we have eight of the 450s one of which you can use to print stamps.
The cool thing is you can export the family addresses to your desktop and import them to DYMO, DLS.exe. These then form a rolodex type window on the left, and you can check which address you want. For whatever reason, some of these are by name of patient and not family, none-the-less, alphabetized. You could add "Family of." This is due to AC and not DYMO.
I just recommend the 450 only because of my familiarity with them over the past six to seven years, and they work with our Amazing Labels software. I am sure the others work just as well.

Hey Bert, I went with the Dymo 450 turbo and I love it! Is there a way to change the size of the labels that Amazing Labels prints to? My lab supplies labels for free for the dymo, but they are half as long as the address labels so AL doesn't print right to it. Any suggestions?
We've been using it to bust out some direct mail lately and it rocks!

So am I understanding that given the size labels you are using, it doesn't match up with the software?
That would be a question for Ed.
It doesn't rock and like Steven and I say, we have no idea why everyone doesn't use it.
Before getting Ed involved, have you tried exported all of the addresses to an xls sheet or csv and then importing them into the actual DYMO software?
We have done that, and will have every patient name or family loaded in the DYMO printer which then can be printed in any font, etc. Let me know. I can always get Ed involved.

Yes Bert, it doesn't match up to the size labels I have.
No I haven't tried to import the database into the dymo software so I guess I'll do that. Then I wouldn't be using the Amazing Labels at all right? It is a cool little program, but I'll try doing the import first.

Free is free! But our labels are perfect. Have you tried talking to the lab and seeing if they would at least give you a discount? I will say downloading from Excel is rather nice, but as far as printing a lab label, the Amazing Labels is the best as it connects directly to the database.
