Hi & Help,
I have made my own PDF Practice Documents for Patient Handouts, but after I add them to the "Practice Documents" I am unable to retrieve and/or print them. My office setup is one server and 3 other networked computers (two laptops and another desktop). Of course AC is installed on the server. I tried adding these pdf files to the Practice Documents from the server desktop from a file called Patient Handouts--they appear as added documents but when I try to view or print them, I get an error code and then AC kicks me out-I have to restart AC and login etc. I hope there is a simple answer-if not, will need to call Support

Thanks

Dr D,

I personally find the practice documents section of a AC weak. I made a folder on our server with all the documents (pt education, maps etc) then placed a shortcut on each desktop. It's much faster. I just document which handouts were given in the plan.

We do the same. Patient Education folder on the desktop. Shared shortcut via group policy.

It would help diagnosing if you could post the error code and/or screenshot.

It's a bug that our IT guy informed Support about a year ago. You can try calling Support, they'll probably just tell you that they are aware of the problem, and there's nothing they can do about it.

Ok, I got it--I will just make my own Practice Documents folders on the server to use across my network at the office & stop wasting time trying to use AC's version (I admit that I am a little disappointed, since AC in general has been very functional, if not always intuitive). Thanks for everyone's comments and suggestions.

I just figured out the fix to the issue. AC really needs to clean house with the programming. The practice documents expect UNC paths e.g. \\server\amazing chats\data_001, if you are using drive maps, e.g. Z:\Amazing Charts, you will get a run time error and something about how the file can't be found. Then, AC will shutdown.

The fix: Use UNC paths.
Start the Amazing Utilities on the Client Computer
Reset Paths at the bottom
Browse to the database using UNC Paths (\\server\Amazing Charts or the Network Icon in Windows 7)

Folder might be better. I've always preferred simple files.
