this has probably already been answered, but is there a way to see a patient's current medication list/prescription history from other physicians outside of ac? tech support told me there currently is no way to do this, but i just wanted to make sure there wasn't some way through surescripts.

we have had a couple patients who misled us into prescribing them controlled substances. the pharmacy eventually let us know, but it would have been great to have known beforehand.

Does your state have a controlled drug database? In Florida, it is the easiest way to check for multi doctor drug shoppers. Databases are available in 37 states.

You can get this information.
Open the prescribing screen.
First, you must be sure that every medication on the patient's medication list has a "sig" filled in. If one or more do not, you will get an error message.
At the top left, click "ePrescribing" then "Manage via NewCrop Screens". When that opens, look for the link to "Surescripts Drug history" and click it.
You select the desired interval and you should see the prescription history for all providers (at least with that insurer).
Here is an example of a screenshot of what you get.

thanks for the info guys. i'm in maryland (like Jon) which is not one of the 37 states. hopefully we will catch up to the rest of the country soon. i think the surescripts way is difficult for our practice, because we have a separate practice management software, and we don't need to put in the patient's insurance

Hey Jon,

That's awesome! I hope this can come in handy for some of these patients that don't remember their meds/doses etc (as long as the info is there). I hadn't played with that screen before. Learn something all the time from you guys.

Thanks

Another use of the statewide drug database, if your state has one, is screening prospective patients for drug abusers.

I think I'm going to have my MA bring up the newcrop info page as part of prepping patient to be seen. Thanks!
