I use logmein when I am at the Hospital and Nursing Home to produce my daily progress notes, as well as from home to work on charts. Even though I have high speed internet there is always a delay with logmein on each stoke that makes it maddening. It is no where close to the speed of being at the office. It works fastest on my MAC at home. I tried to sync my laptop but had problems with loosing data. Does anybody have any other suggestions? Since 20% of my time is at the hospital and 15% at the Nursing Home it is important to find a solution that could speed me up at those locations.

What type of connection are you using? 3G, 4G, Fixed wireless, guest wireless at the facilties?

Both the hospital and nursing home are likely much inferior bandwidth than a dedicated business or individual home high speed internet connection. Most likely there are multiple access points or repeaters throughout larger facilities.
Even so, there are several adjustments to LogMeIn that may help speed you up. When logged into the remote computer, open Preferences>General, and under Performance, check Display accelerator and Disable wallpaper.

Supposedly this is available in Kerryville, TX. Not sure if it would work inside or not. I don't know much about wireless. https://www.worldwidewireless.com/I guess you would need to go through a company called Clear, although Sprint is starting to offer 4G LTE in your area.

I made several adjustments to Logmein in their performance section to maximize the speed and performance. It worked great! You would not believe the difference in speed it makes. Now about 85-90% of the speed in my office which has no detectable delay most of the time, thanks to the suggestion from ryanjo!

Agreed, John is king of logmein. So here is a related question: how do you handle the option of "resolution settings"? I am not sure how logmein picks the resolution. I have noted that it often looks better if I select "match resolution". Is there a way to predict which resolution is best? Is there a way to pre-set that?

I have used Windows Remote Desktop for about a year. It usually works better than either Logmein or TeamViewer, but not always, so I also keep Logmein around -- I keep the Pro version on my office computer so I can print to it.
Teamviewer is really nice, but very expensive. I suppose you could use the "free" version, but that seems like cheating, since this is a commercial venture.
I use RD or Logmein in motels, at home, on hospital networks and anywhere I can get a signal. It works fairly well with 3G connection from ATT. I use an "internet HotSpot" on my HTC Inspire -- I'm sure there are other ways to connect a laptop to the Internet.
The main speed hog with Logmein seems to be Hi Color display, along with all the bells and whistles of wallpaper, Aero, etc. Cut down to the lowest resolution -- works ok for text, even if it is ugly. If you have at least 500K upload speed it will work without serious delay -- most of the time.

Thanks for the tips, I too was have a lag in key stroke time, it would take me so long to finish one chart from home, I gave up and am now very far behind and trying to play catch up. I use high speed cable and it made no difference to the speed of log me in. I am going to make the adjustments as John stated above and see if that helps me, if not I will be back to ask for more help.
Thanks, Grace

I use RDP most of the time here as well. Use LMI if I'm on a computer that doesn't support RDP or I'm on my phone, I use ignition. LMI is also good for offsite assistance. RDP usually forces the current user to log out or they can't see the screen which is great for remote access, not so much for support.
TeamViewer is excellent as well. The $500 price tag is not. However, if you compare it to LMI pro, I guess it's a good deal. TeamViewer is lifetime subscription while LMI Pro is annual. But for supporting family and friends, that's my go-to remote access software.
