I saw this commentary in the 02/12/2012 issue of Internal Medicine News, one of what most doctors seem to commonly refer to as a "throw away journal." But its a nice commentary.

I read it there too. I like the thing.

Bump this back to the top! This is a great article and, like other things, something I never considered because I'm used to doing it the 'usual' way. This sounds like a great idea. I wonder how many of my patients would object to it! I hope more people chime in about this idea!

I'm starting this on Monday for all new patients. Sweet. This is going to make Jan/Feb much better next year when deductibles are all back up and no one pays.

LOL, I did a search for this on online and he has some pretty bad patient reviews. My favorite was "the nurse came in before the doctor to tell me that I had to very very fast if I had question because he would only be in the room for a few minutes" lol

Yes, so he has bad reviews on RateMds. So do we. Most of the negatives on him seem to be around the wait. I suspect he has an awful lot of patients and he's booking them all in short intervals...hence the wait. But if they are still going to him, he's either got a captive audience or else he's doing SOMETHING right.

But that is off the point on this thread. This is about collecting credit card numbers and charging for non-covered fees. My question now is, if I want to do it, where do I keep the patient's credit card information?

Wayne,
Updox is actually going to start offering a way to store them through them. I spoke with Tobin recently and it's in one of the planned updates. In the past I have declined to store credit cards as I felt I didn't have a good way here in the office, but will be considering it now depending on how the Updox system works with that.

So, Scott did you start this? If so, did you get much resistance from patients? If not, why not?
