Here's your Friday night brain teaser.
How does one make symbols in AC? For example, instead of writing out "degrees" (ie, flexion to 30 degrees), how do I make that symbol? I found the codes & # 176 (written all together, no spaces) both listed to make the degree sign, but when I put it in the progress note and save it, I only see the signs and numbers, not the degree sign.

With Dragon NaturallySpeaking, you just say "degree sign". Barbara, I think you gave up on DNS too easily! It works great for me. Once you get it working right for you, it can be very accurate, and it is very powerful when teamed up with AC. It rocks with the ICD-9 coder and the Prescription writer.

Hey Brian, Perhaps I did give up, but there is something on my machine that is in conflict with it. One moment the program was flawless, and then other times it would get hung up and not respond at all. However, most of the time, unless I very carefully, and painfully checked every word, my notes looked like they had been dictated by someone from another planet - very unprofessional. I have a good sound card and a great mic...so it was not that.

Barbara:
Let me also say that changing to Medical made a *huge* difference. The Medical version is just *waiting* for a chance to correctly interpret a medical phrase, and it's not that expensive to upgrade from Professional.
Example I recently read: Urinalysis would probably be rendered "You're in analysis" if you are using a non-medical version, because that is what most non-medical people would be most likely to say.
