I was all set to upgrade to 6.1.2 on Friday but was told 6.2 would be released next week and it would be better to wait. (Hope that wasn't a secret). I'm still unclear whether it is better to totally uninstall my current version 6.0.9 or not? I'm concerned about all the configuration that we had to do to get the Labcorp labs to import. And we had to install some hl7 file for the Windows 7 machines to run faster. Of course, it might be best to get a clean install and just figure out the Labcorp issue again if need be. Any thoughts? Thanks.

In my 4+ years of using AC, uninstall then clean install is always always always best practice with this program.

Only using AC 2 yrs and do my own upgrades, but I do not uninstall first. I just let the upgrade tell me what to do and do it. Unless the upgrade uninstalls, I have never done it separately and not had an issue. I started w/ 5.0?? and am now on the current beta since it came out. It works quite well.

Hello,

Unistalling before you upgrade is not needed. The installer will update the needed information. Not unistalling will help it find the current path and location of the database.

We've been on the beta program for Amazing Charts for over a year and have updated to each new version shortly after it was released. I have heard something will be released "next week" a few times... It could be 3 or could 5 weeks or so.

Version 6.1.2 solved a number of performance issues with us that had made some sections of A/C almost unusable, especially in Orders and ePrescribing. The change from 6.0.9 to 6.1.2 is not a huge jump program-wise and I doubt there is any need to uninstall first. A/C designs it's updates to replace existing versions intact.

I'm the IT guy here and have about 30 stations on our network. If you are not have performance problems getting the the way of doing your work it might be worth waiting.

Been doing this for eight years, and that is the first time I have heard anything about installation from AC. Although it may be on the site.

The only issue, is I absolutely abhor the idea of installing databases on a system drive or installing a program on a data drive. Therefore, they have to be moved, which is not best practice.

It would be great if AC had a part in their install where you could decide where to install the program and where to install the databases.

By the way, you have to use the tuner whether you uninstall or not. I don't know why the tuner can't be incorporated into the installer.

I will second Bert's motion to have the database tuner run as part of the installation program. I've never seen a program which requires me to run those components separately. I'm sure AC must have a good reason for doing this, would be nice to know what the reason is.

My set up is P2P rather than server client - I run the tuner on the main computer only -

understood, however the current installation format asks if you are installing on the "Main comuputer/server" or if you are installing on a client machine.

Upon installation upgrade on a server or "main computer" the database tuner would be run on that machine only. That would be my wish for the upgrades.

Hello all,

Here is some good news regarding the Amazing Charts Installer.
The Development team is in the process of redesigning the installer.
Some of the desired features talked about in this thread are being considered.

We are not sure what version the updated installer features will be implemented, but we should see some changes and improvements in the future.

Does that mean it may recognize if there is a database present that would need to be tuned just as it can recognize if SQL is present?

That is one of the upgrade features we spoke of, at this point in time the project is still in the planning phase. But it is definitely a priority to redesign the Amazing Charts Installer.

I would also suggest that you add an option as whether the user intends to use the iPhone app; by default I would NOT install all of the iGibberish that isn't needed unless someone is going to actually use that app.

Two other things:

1. Better documentation for install. For instance, it has come up quite a bit as to whether or not installing over or uninstalling is best practice. Many installation downloads come in a folder with a PDF User Guide.
2. It would really be helpful if during the install, it allowed you to choose where you wanted to install the program, by default: C:\Program Files\Amazing Charts and the databases (which generally include other necessary files and folders) which I would install to the D:\ drive. It generally makes sense to have data on a data drive.

Claire I just checked and 6.1.1 is still installed after we installed 6.1.2? Should I uninstall it? Its 4 times the size of 6.1.2. SBS 2003

Clem Surak: Is anyone else using ACPM and the EOBs are not matching up to patient accounts and the EOBs are having to be retyped into ACPM? Started a couple of weeks ago. Payer IDs are correct and match the EOB payer IDs.
tcosta: @ Clem Surak: yes, this has been going on for MONTHS in our office. We've been told it's the payers fault and it has to do with loop segments and payer response. Doesn't make sense to me, considering it's ALL the time now on multiple EOB's a week.
