Happy Superbowl Sunday! I have tried to keep my life simple and thus I know there are areas of AC I've not really explored. I need to change that (unless of course, it's too crazy). Thus...referrals. I would like to create my referrals from AC. And I see that I can. However, when I do this and hit print what comes up is an order page. There does not seem to be a way for me to add WHY I am referring, what I am looking for/suspect or even want from the person I'm referring to. Yes, there is an ICD9, but we all know that is not enough. If I access orders from outside of a patient chart, and hit print, I get the letter template (which as we know is horrid), but no way to add info into the letter. I would like to be able to refer from AC if possible so we can track in one place, but how? Thanks for the help, Barbara

you can create a custom letter template in the letter writer. For example it says: Dear Dr. ____ I am refering ____ patient for diagnosis second opinion diagnosis and treatment procedural management
You can use the letter writer to add meds, pmhx, social history.
sincerely, Dr. Barbara

Barbara, The way AC seems to want you to generate referrals is through the "Orders" section, as you say. Go to the "Referrals" tab and put a check into the box next to the referring doc. In the "Comments" just to the right of that, you can put additional information. E.g., "Thanks for seeing this patient with abdominal pain and rectal bleeding. Do you think she needs a colonoscopy?". This appears on the referral. Then hit print and you get a printed referral. Hit "Save" or "Save and send" if you want it recorded in the plan section of the note. That also saves the "order" (referral) to be reconciled later.

Thanks! I've never really noticed that "comment" box. Duh. I'll give it a try. Sounds much easier than using the letter writer. I've been using AC since 2006 and I've never liked it.

Then hit print and you get a printed referral. Hit "Save" or "Save and send" if you want it recorded in the plan section of the note. That also saves the "order" (referral) to be reconciled later. Oh, just what I need; more orders that need to be 'reconciled'. Like that will ever happen! No, seriously thanks - I haven't ever used the orders section for that, but use it all the time for labs.

Just print the order and there is nothing to reconcile.
