We have had a problem with a new Dell laptop with Windows 7 (32 bit) and Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard. When I attempt to open a pdf file in imports AC crashes. When I use Adobe Reader X the pdf import file opens normally and without any problems. Has anyone had any experience with Adobe Acrobat causing AC to crash? The Adobe Acrobat will open any pdf file on this same computer but not through AC.

Ted, I've been using Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard on some machines and 9 Pro on other machines. I've not once had a crash caused by interfacing AC and Adobe Acrobat 9. My OS is Win 7 Pro 32 bit on most machines, Win 7 64 bit on a few machines.
question: is both Acrobat 9 AND ReaderX installed on the machine in question? If so, have you uninstalled ReaderX?
If you are still having the issue, have you made Acrobat 9 the DEFAULT VIEWER for PDF images? to do this, place a PDF file on your desktop. Right click it and select "Open with..." then select Adobe Acrobat 9 and make sure the box is CHECKED "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file."
remember to restart the computer after removing ReaderX.
start with these steps and report back to us what happened, if anything.

The new laptop came with Adobe Reader X installed. I installed Adobe Acrobat and after doing so a window popped up asking which program that I wanted to be the default pdf reader and I selected acrobat. Following this I uninstalled the Adobe Reader (this was reinstalled because the Adobe Acrobat was malfunctioning). I will now uninstall Adobe Reader again, restart the computer and then open a pdf file as you recommended and see if that works.

Also after uninstalling the ReaderX, make sure you right click a PDF, and select Adobe Acrobat9 as the default viewer. Then please update with results. If this does not fix it, either Indy or Sandeep would be users that you might consider PM'ing or emailing.

Or, God forbid, actually call Adobe for support. Yes, they are expensive, but it does come with support. Unless Sandeep works for Adobe.

I think it is, "I can neither confirm nor deny...." Ha, had to read it twice. That's what I thought I said.
