For those of you with fax boards i.e. Mainpine or Brooktrout, how do you handle address books?
Btw, Bert, how are you liking that 2 line Mainpine IQ Express? Any more issues?

Since we use FaxMaker along with our Brooktrout, we use Outlook's Address book.

Btw, Bert, how are you liking that 2 line Mainpine IQ Express? Any more issues? Loving it! But, support did have to do a number of things to get it to work. The extra modem is not really helping (and probably not needed) as I forgot you need a completely extra fax line. Which brings up a question when you are ready. And, I now have an absolutely perfect Brooktrout board on my desk.

We just use the built-in address book, as I have way too many contacts in Outlook. Suppose I could add a separate group.

This is where things got tricky for me as I needed all of them to have the same address book. (Not only have but also have new contacts as well from all each staff member being synced.)

JamesNT Same thing as above. Do each of you have separate address books or does outlook sync them automatically. (I use OWA not the full Microsoft Outlook program.)

Since we have a full Exchange 2010 server, we use the Outlook Address book synced on the Exchange Server. So everyone can fax any client at any time by just pulling up Outlook and doing a quick search. With Faxmaker, you type in xxxxxxxxxx@faxmaker.com where the x is the phone number (so to fax us you would type 9197519120@faxmaker.com) in the Outlook address box and faxmaker takes it from there. Your email, along with attachments, becomes a fax.

Fax mail transport doesn't work in OWA unfortunately. Nor do I have Outlook installed on any client computers (we use Open Office) which forced me to get creative. We use the fax wizard to send faxes. The way I do it now is that I created an OU for contacts in the AD. Added all the contacts. So when they run the fax wizard to add a recipient, they search the AD for the contact name. The hard part was figuring out how to automate adding contacts to the AD without giving them access to the AD (lol who would give anyone access to the AD...) or having to add the contacts myself. I can post a detailed solution if anyone is interested.

Why does everyone need the same address book. It would seem once everyone gets the same core group of contacts, they can add whatever they want after that.

Also, as you know, I'm planning on moving to new computers soon. I'm just thinking ahead so I don't have to copy individual address books to each computer. Very often, they need to fax the same person. If that person is entered in the database, less time wasted reentering the details.
