Roger, File Assistant Pro (FAP) is a program Bert and his computer programer Ed developed. It's a stand alone product for managing files, for example PDF images. It can be used with Amazing Charts to manage imported items. Instead of importing into AC, the PDF's are kept in a separate folder and are more user friendly to find and manipulate than they are in the AC Imported Items. You can talk to Bert if you don't like using the Imported Items method of storing labs, reports, etc.

Adam, thanks (I do like your signature quote from Ben F).I should chat with Bert.
I guess I use f.a.a. (lower case on purpose): "file assitant amateur" then.
I built an "external to AC" note editing/creation program (think templates on steroids) that has links to the scanned images indexed (again , outside of AC) for review, much faster than AC / Apple QuickView combo.
This eNotes can generate a comprehensive, unique note in short order, can take voice transcription from non-medical Dragon, and best of all is also used at our hospital for physician documentation.
The note created is "uploaded" to AC (very much a kludge: AutoHotKey "plays" the text into AC, then I sign it).
One of the reasons I chose AC was its similarity to what I had built using Access. I used AC "Live in the dark" for 3 months, and went live with AC for my staff 1/3/12. Very little training has been required so far. Of course, they have a long ways to go for optimal use, but I see it a gradual process without any loss of productivity to date. Hair pulling at times, yes. Less productivity no.

We actually used that meaning. No. But there are many meanings for FAP. Familial adenomatous polyposis is one. A kind of Puegot is another.
I see four kids from time to time, but I never have four charts open or would want to. Again, my MA would bring four paper charts in a room, but it would do me no good to open all four. If it is four acutes, I do one at a time. If it is four well child exams, I do the Bright Futures form on all of them, then I go into each chart and look at growth curves, meds and vitals, then I put them all on the exam table and do an assembly line exam. Usually see all four of them in 25 minutes. Well child physicals are basically useless, the examination equivalent of doing CMPs on every person in the city. And, most parents want to get out of the room faster than we do. 75% of the exam is for show.

The useful part of the encounter is the talking.

It does make one feel that he/she is wearing fishnet stockings and heels in order to make a living, sometimes....

David,
The only ones I know still wearing fishnet stockings and high heels are transvestites but the similarities are enlightening. Doctors too ( particularly primary care) are suffering from an identity crisis. Our clients many times expect a two-fer but don't want to pay extra. We have to prostitute ourselves to make a decent living and the government is always trying to shut us down. Gotta go, my garter is slipping!

My workaround for the problem, while not perfect, allows me to open 2 or 3 charts. I've created two separate windows accounts on all my exam room laptops. The most common time i need multiple charts open is if i have a long chart that will take me a while to complete i want to save it till i get a break yet keep going. I "switch user" under windows and then open ac in the other user account. it takes a minute or two to do this, but it is better tyhan nothing. Just be careful not to "log out" of an account or shut down but "switch users" in windows. AC allows a user to log in from multiple computers simultaneously. just be sure you dont edit the same patient on multiple computers.

Art,There seem to be 3 similar workarounds to accomplish this. You do it by switching users, Bert mentioned using a virtual machine, and I occasionally use logmein. We have a relatively old machine on our network that is not connected to a keyboard or monitor. One reason for this set up is so I can quickly use logmein ignition, and use another instance of AC to open a second chart. An advantage of using logmein is that you can easily toggle between the two charts.
