Using 6.12, everything seems to print fairly quickly EXCEPT for orders using Crystal Reports. These take about 20 seconds to spool, no matter which printer is selected. Tech support was not especially helpful. It is not a deal-breaker, but 20 seconds each for lab, x-ray and procedure add up. Is it just me?

In addition to David's observation above, when I send an order to Updox for faxing (which involves using a virtual printer), it also spools very slowly or sometimes times out.

David, I also use 6.1.2. I run into this problem but not quite 20 seconds long. Usually only as much as 5 seconds. However the ONLY time AC has been crashing on me is exactly when crystal reports starts running. Blam! About one in fifty times to one in one hundred times, I'm cruising along no problem, then print a lab, crystal reports starts....crash. Damn I don't like that.

Don't know because I haven't looked at the code, but it appears that there are certain things that when they are called to output/print, AC is using a CR 'plug-in' to prepare/format/structure the output.

Not surprisingly, that eats time, CPU, and [sometimes] execution.

Whatever changes are made would be fundamental, but I suspect that some folks would choose plain text output, even if it looked like notepad, over elaborate formatted output.

Probably has something to do with starting out with mainframe output onto yellow teletype paper and my training, but I have never had affection for "Pretty".

Indy, at least we don't have vacuum tubes in a gigantic room that we have to run around and plug in or plug out in order to make the computer work.

Completely OT of Crystal Reports, but I remember the first time I saw a grown man break down and weep on his knees; he had been running to the card-reader room to beat the 4AM maintenance window, tripped, and a FULL tray of punch cards went flying across the room.

That really helps me keep my computer connection speed issue of 12 seconds delay communicating to the AC database in perspective. Imagine if we all had to input our data into AC using punch cards! I bet none of us would have the free time to post on this user board if that were the case....except maybe Bert would not be deterred.

Actually, I was talking the beauty in your ability to do the double quotes. Of course, I was talking about you.

And, admit it, you only wrote this, so your wife would allow you total free time to watch your Ravens this weekend. smile

Can't speak for him. For me, years ago I learned to bring in another person to do the User Interface.

Now that I am doing mobile development, dealing with the UI is far better as you are dealing with attributes of an object in-line.

I actually thought Bert was suggesting JB; but now that I think of it, as pretty as Crystal Reports can make output, it probably can't hold a candle to the beauty of a color colonoscopy.

I actually meant JB. Just look at the progress notes and letter writer. One thing my programmer taught me. You can't just think of what you like. You have to think of what other providers would want. It's hard to do.

Well don't fret My "NY Giants" will take care of your light work this coming weekend and grind that snotnosed little twit of a supposed quarterback Brady down into the turf just like we did four years ago the last time the two teams went head to head in the Super Bowl....

Now don't anybody even THINK about calling my house after 6 pm EVEN if you really are dying....

Let's Go Giants!!!

My fiance is Steeler's fan, and Steeler's hate Patriots. Therefore I have to hate the Patriots if I want civility in our friendship... But I rooted for Chicago in 1985 when they destroyed Pats in Superbowl XX
