Am I missing an option, or is it just me? For charts in my inbox: the subject line of the msg is "CHART: FirstName LastName"
I can sort by date, sender or subject, but this puts the charts list alpha by first name. That makes is hard for me to find a particular chart if I have more than a few are in the list (joke that I always know my patient's first name: Mrs. Ms. or Mr.) (I complete charts in my office in near time rather than in real time . . . because I do)
Does this bother any one else? Is there a work around or option to sort by last name?
Thanks.

Roger I don't know of an option to sort by last name, another user can hopefully chime in if there is. It can get pretty congested in there. With imported items to sign off, messages incoming non-stop all day, and charts always there, there is a lot of stuff that can pile up in the desktop. I try as hard as possible to have my chart signed off when the patient and I leave the room. Often times I multi-task when a patient is talking I may respond to some of the easier messages or sign off the imported items.
Using the sort feature is helpful, but I'm sorry I can't help you with the last name sorting.

Yes, there is an easy workaround if you wish to use it. When your MA forwards the chart to your inbox, after she/he clicks on Forward Chart, a window will open to allow the MA to decide who to send it to.
In the window there is a subject line. Whatever is in the subject line is what will appear in the subject line in your inbox. You can edit that so your MA can put anything in there. So, depending on how much of a pain it is, the MA could put CHART: SMITH: JOHN SMITH (01/01/1972) or SMITH, JOHN (which would look better). Either way, it would sort by the first letter or letters of whatever your MA put in after CHART:
Personally, I think all charts should rise to the top with the name in Last Name, First Name in capitals without the word CHART in it, and messages could be lower case with Message in front.

Thanks, bert, but I save my charts at the end of the visit (saving orders, med changes, instructions) and complete the note in my office later. Saving the chart does not give me the option to choose a subject line. Agreed on your sorting preferences.

I am confused. Can you clarify "Save" vs "Signoff?" It sounds as though you finish your charts at the end of the day, therefore, that would be when you sign them.
But, if you are saving them at the end of the visit, how are you doing this. I would think to save a chart you would have to forward it to your inbox.
Anytime you forward the chart to your inbox (at the end of a visit), you have the option to change the subject line, therefore typing in the name in any fashion you wish.
Or do you save it in a different way?

Ctrl-S saves to my inbox, without option to change subj line.

Nephros, Chart sorting by first name is an idiosyncrasy of AC which makes no sense to me. Bert's suggestion is the only way that I know of to avoid that. Since you (and I) save charts with Ctrl-S, you don't have the naming option. The only other choice is to save it to yourself by hitting "forward chart", then selecting yourself, then renaming the message as Bert suggests. If that is worth the effort, then go that route.
Do keep in mind that you can first filter your box to only show the charts, and THEN sort them by name or date. That is usually enough for me to find what I need pretty quickly.

This is why I wrote Forward Chart. I should have been clearer. Thanks Jon for pointing that out. As to is it worth it, probably not. Clicking forward chart would not be much effort, but editing the subject line would.

Looks like I better get used to looking for the first name. Thanks to all.

Probably. Did you try it the other way? Even if you simply deleted the first name.
