Can you please share your workstation setup in the rooms Anytime I go to my dentist I am jealous of his nice setup Nolaptops but very nicely mounted screens with long wall arms that he can turn the way he likes It seems that the software company provides him with all hardware and it I dental and pretty expensive Any suggestions for arms or a successful setup.

Dear EMR: Welcome to ACUB. I find that for my practice style a laptop is the ideal solution. I can sit and talk with the patient and enter notes unobtrusively. I can maintain eye contact better that I could with a wall mounted screen. I think this is important for the doctor-patient relationship.
If you like the system your dentist uses, you might ask him directly--and then share it with the rest of us.
With best wishes for the New Year,
John

I will echo John's sentiment. I use laptops on mobile stands so I can move it to make eye contact whether the patient is in a chair or up on the table. For us, the laptop's small footprint and low profile are ideal.

Just get a Dell Vostro or Optiplex and put it under a table. I don't use Laptops, but to each his own. It would be nearly impossible to spec out a Dell and get a poor computer. I use all Lenovos from IBM.
If you want speed, then get one with an SSD. All of mine are SSD.
If you could, please make a signature with your name at the bottom. It is hard to address someone as EMR.

He was likely using something like an Erogtron wall mount. They are commonly used in hospitals as well. Check them out: http://www.ergotron.com/Products/WallMounts/tabid/157/Default.aspxThere are cheaper alternatives out there. But to be honest, nothing really matches these arms. I have 3 on my personal computer. And my dad has one on his as well. Full range of motion. Good extension. They are awesome. Lets me fit 3 monitors on my desk. ![[Linked Image from ]](/ub/attachments/usergals/2012/01/full-2987-60-imag0007.jpg)

I have a laptop that I just set on the exam table (chairs are on the opposite side) if the patient is in a chair, otherwise I just hold it on my lap and talk to them on the table.
I try to keep as much eye contact as possible. With one exception, I have never needed to explain or justify my use of the chart. One family member recently complained about me typing, and asked if I couldn't just hire a scribe. That ticked me off considering her mother was Medicare!

But we are all rich doctors, right? we should just be able to hire scribes, maids, and everyone else to do our work for us while we sit in an office chair drinking coffee all day. It's pretty annoying that many people have this perception. Few know what it takes to own and operate a medical office. Most of us are not only doctor, but also the office manager, human resources person, I.T. tech, maintenance person, and take out the trash.

Didn't Medicare institute a modifier for when you use a scribe? There is no change in your payment; you just give the payment to the scribe.

There is a G-code for scribe, but I can't find it. Anyone here on the board able to find the G-code for scribes, please inform Jon(JBS) and I.

We use an ergotron setup. The screen and keybord are infinitely adjustable. I also have a scribe so I can focus on the patient.

Adam, you forgot "handyman". I am currently in the process of tearing up flooring in my office bathrooms (damaged by rainwater coming in under the door ). I also need a new roof but that will have to wait until the next tornado so I can tun it into insurance.
