In a Windows SBS 2011E environment.
EVERY time I open amazing charts on the network, it throws this
'The Amazing Charts Service is not Running on the Main Computer. Please Run the Amazing Utilities Program on your main database computer and click the Check Amazing Charts button to resolve this issue.'
I do that. No problems. When i check Services.msc . The amazing charts services are running.
I can just click ok and the program starts up fine after the error. But it is screwing with my automatic backup, as the 'service' has to be running for Amazing Backup to run. Any suggestions?

Hello,
This is an issue where the local PCs cannot read that the services are running on the server, when they actually are. There is one sure fix for this and that is by uninstalling Amazing Charts on the server and then reinstall it. Just make sure you run a backup first. Then just go into the Control Panel and open Programs to uninstall Amazing Charts. After the uninstall just run the installer to reinstall Amazing Charts. This should fix the issue.
Thank you, Anthony@AC

Anthony,
I didn't have to go that far we just needed to stop and restart SQL for amazing charts on the main computer. It fixed our problem several times when it happened after we upgraded to 6.0.10
Solo practice has it's headaches but beats being an employee.

I get this error once in a while, but the Amazing Utilities fixes it. I don't think uninstalling and reinstalling a program should be a fix to anything. Part of the reason I don't do a lot of incremental beta updates, is this isn't Word I am installing. This is all of my patient data. Things go wrong and AC is not the easiest program to uninstall and install.
tampa, can you run it from the server as the issue always seems to happen from a client computer? What happens when you run it manually and not scheduled? Does it work scheduled if you run Amazing Utilities just before it?

Will try just stopping the SQL service after clinic today.
When i run AC on the server, it starts up w no problem
The Backup runs manually just fine.
Set automatic backup to 5 minutes after i ran Amazing Utilities. No Dice.

tampa,
If it becomes too much of an issue, just have someone on here write your a script or batch file that can run the utility followed by the backup. For many on here (I could name a few -- I think), that would be rather simple.

Stopping the AC Services then re-Starting them has no effect on error that im getting on the clients.
The batch file would be fine, but i want it to run automatically!

net stop "AmazingChartsService" net start "AmazingChartsService"
Then, go to Scheduled Tasks in Control Panel or Admin Tools, Add Scheduled Task, then just go through the wizard.
You have to point it to your batch file (I usually save them to the root of c:\ so I can find them easily) _______________
You may also be able to just go to the service, choose the recovery tab, and change the "Take No Action" to "Restart."
I also sent four or five emails from Experts-Exchange outlining various methods that may help.
I know it should just work, but these are just some ideas to possibly fix it for now.

Bert's advice is sound. I would NEVER uninstall then reinstall AC on the server because that should never be a solution to any problem. It's your entire practice that's on the line. If it were Java or Adobe I wouldn't think twice about it. That being said those programs just work...they never break. Their upgrades don't require 4 hours on a weekend to complete. Their upgrades are simple patches that install in 30 seconds to 3 minutes. They don't require separate database tuners that aren't bundled into the upgrade software.
Installing AC is one of the more difficult programs I've ever installed. but not the hardest. The hardest is installing Small Business Server OS. That took a long time, but AC is right up there in level of difficulty.
I get the same error you are reporting on occasion. I never do anything about it, and it never bothers my back ups. I use Backup Assist v6. Sorry I can't help.

Thanks for all the potential solutions.
Yesterday, I stopped and started the Service, did a manual backup, and set my auto backup for that night. The Auto-Backup ran OK, but the error persists on the client computers this morning.
Bert i got all your emails last night. Thanks for that.

Just wanted to make a note: My SBS backups run fine, so the service wasn't affecting anything outside the AC/SQL environment.

I would be really upset if I uninstalled and re-installed AC, and the problem still persisted. This is another one of those instances where AC should just come out and say, "We are aware of the problem, and we are working on it."
You are most welcome, Tampabrock.

I've tried their recommended fix with the AC Utilities and it is still doing it... Did stopping the service actually help? It sounds like mixed reviews.

Their fix of going to the Main Computer, right-clicking on Amazing Utilities and running Check Amazing Charts ALWAYS fixes the problem for me. But, it comes back within a week.
This should be fixable as it is the classic example of being reproducible. Personally, I have found fixing it to be more of a nuicanse then just clicking through it.

Boondoc, I usually ignore that message. And it will go away on it's own many times after awhile. Following AC's advice as the post above indicates often fixes it, but doesn't always for me. The problem always eventually comes back.
sometimes restarting my server (which stops then restarts the AC service) will cure it for awhile, then it comes back.
doesn't seem to affect AC any more than just being a nuisance.
