Anyone using the basic Dragon 8 with AC? I was wondering which microphone you are using.
Thanks

Have you started using the Dragon 8 ? If so, how do you like it?

I have been using Dragon 8 (medical suite) for the past 2 +years and I find it to be very efficient. I dictate all my notes, often between patient visits. I use Philips speechmike microphone. It hooks into a USB port and is handheld so you can quickly pick it up and put it down without trying to put it around your head/ears. It laso has mouse controls which comes in handy. It's a bit pricey (around 150) but I think is worth it. Good luck.

I am assuming you are dictating right into Amazing Charts. Is that correct?

Yes, you just point the cursor and begin dictating. You can also use commands to go between fields without the keyboard. I mostly use templates within AC but I do have some common phrases that I use through Dragon. You can train any length phrase/paragrah and assign it a name so that by saying that word, the field is populated.

Question; with this set-up are you just using the off the shelf version or are you using it combined with an add-on "medical" dictionary so it can more easily recognize the things you are saying??? Thanks...

I have found that Version 8 Medical is pretty good-it still has occasional problems understanding me but in comparison to the last version I tried (Ver 3) wow what a difference. The medical version, although expensive, is an unbelievable time saver in speeding up dictation. I presume I can input all the terms and medications slowly as they come up, but my time seems more valuable.

I have been using the headset that comes with the progam and this seems to work well. The program recommends certain types of microphones but I figure if it works so far, why change it--

I agree. I've used the medical suite as well as it has most medical terms ready to be used. You can add any word or combination you like, but it would be time consuming.

i am using dragon 9 professional, and i find it works great. i was using dragon 8 pro, but i never used the document examiner; i am in v9, and my accuracy has gone up to 98-100%. be sure to use the document examiner, and you'll notice a tremendous difference.
btw, i find that dragon medical is not necessary, pro is sufficient.

tmosk,
What commands are you using to move between fields? Also, since upgrading from Dragon v.8 to v.9, it sometimes fails to capitalize when I start a sentence. Anybody else having this problem?

First, I'm using professional version 8. When you say "tab key", the cursor moves to the next section. So in theory, you can fill in all the fields without using your mouse. I do find it easier to enter the vital signs manually. Hope this helps.

Thanks, that does help. I find my Dragon Medical v.9 is more accurate in Amazing Charts than it is in DragonPad. I'm using it on a Toshiba 405 tablet pc which is plenty fast. I'm looking at moving to a bluetooth microphone so I can do the dictation before leaving the exam room. If anyone has a suggestion for a good wireless microphone I would appreciate your input.

I have a suggestion for a wireless setup. This is the wireless setup that I use, and I am currently dictating right on it now.
I use a RadioShack headset microphone, stock number is 33 -- 3012. You should be able to get it for $30.
I use a combination 900 MHz eight channel switchable transmitter and receiver. The transmitter is stock number 32 -- 1252, and the receiver is 32 -- 1250.
You can get both the transmitter and receiver along with a microphone which is handheld, stock number 32 -- 1256, but I don't know if it's any longer available.
If you buy the transmitter, receiver and headset microphone separately, you will spend about $150. I wear the microphone and plug it in to the transmitter, and then then the signal is transmitted wirelessly from the transmitter to the receiver; the receiver is plugged directly into the microphone input on the sound card in my workstation.
There is also an FM wireless system, however I am in an area where there is a significant amount of electromagnetic radiation, due to a nearby mountain with multiple antennas on it. The FM system does not work in my office, so I tried the 900 MHz system, and I've not had any problems. I use the FM system at home and that works fine for me.
Hope that's helpful.
