We are considering purchasing AC. We want to use it on our MacBooks. Can anyone comment on how successful this is? How do you manage the fields requiring right and left clicking?

Thanks.

You need to use a Virtual Machine (Parallels or VMware Fusion) or Bootcamp to run Windows. Otherwise, not really much different than on a PC. I have only used Macs as clients; I think it is better for backup (*see below) and troubleshooting to have the "main computer" as a "real PC".

To right click using a MacBook trackpad, place two fingers on the trackpad and click the trackpad button. This is the same in Bootcamp or any of the virtual machines.

If you are using a virtual machine, be sure to have the two-fingered click option enabled on the host MacOS to execute a right-click. To enable the two-fingered click for a MacBook trackpad, go to System Preferences> Keyboard & Mouse > Trackpad, and enable Trackpad Gestures > Clicking. Ensure that the checkbox then reads "Tap trackpad using two fingers for secondary click".

*Time Machine will not backup the Bootcamp partition. VMware Fusion & Parallels Windows partitions are backed up by TM unless you exclude them, but the files are huge and slow down backing up. So it's not wise to use Windows emulation on a Mac for any irreplaceable data.

I find the two finger right click very cumbersome. I prefer to carry a small two button mouse if I'm going to use my Mac. As much as I love my Macs, it was just much less painful in the end to get a windows laptop just for AC.

Ditto. We love our macs too but it was just easier to go with PCs for the office.

At home, on the road, or from the hospital we access the work computers with logmein, so there's no need for the virtual machine on the macs, ipads and iphones.

I love Macs, too. Sadly, it seems that for medical applications, it is a PC world. I look forward to the day that that is not the case.

I wouldn't hold my breath regarding Macs replacing PC's on the desktop.

For AC to run on a Mac, that would essentially double development costs.

1) you can enable right and left clicking in the system preferences > track pad > point & click> secondary click

2) I suggest if you have windows pro of some sort installed on an office machine you can use Windows Remote Desktop Connection otherwise your cornered into using either bootcamp/parallels/vmware to install and run a copy of windows on your macbook to get this setup working.

WineHD doesn't work and there's no software I've found that will allow you to run this windows based software (AC) on your mac on it's own. Sadly it's windows dependent....

I will say I'm running OSX 10.7.2 with 8GB ram on my MBP from 2009 with VMWare and an installation (barebones) of windows 7 pro to run AC. It works fairly well and I have no real complaints. Still have OSX running via mission control on one screen and windows on another screen...

Thanks everyone. We have settled on getting PCs for the office. Any suggestions for a printer?

Lol a bit late?

Just a printer or a multifunction printer/copier/scanner/fax?

I understand Bill, but it seems Apple has put all of their efforts into iEverything as iPod, iPhone, iPad, etc. And, you can't blame them.

Sandeep has a good point. Suggestions for a printer is a rather broad question. And, most offices will require multiple printers. Kind of scary to think of our office:

4 medium HP printers
1 large HP printer
1 large Dell printer
1 very large, very expensive Xerox MFC (print, copy, scan, fax)
1 large Xerox Cube color printer
2 Star Micronics TSP800II printers
6 DYMO printers

I think that's it. That's the nice thing about going paperless. No need to print anymore.

But, all in all, HP, while no longer a force in the computing arena losing out to Dell and Lenovo, is still the king of printers.

For our 2 doc office, we use 2 Star Micronics TSP800II prescription printers and a Brother 8890dw MFC wireless as the network fax/printer/scanner.

Does anyone know how to access Remote Workspace on SBS2011 from a MacBook?

When I was using RDP on port 3389, I could use Microsoft Remote Desktop client, but it does not work with SBS2011 remote workspace.

Compared to RDC, using RWW on Windows under Parallels or Fusion is slow.

You can't use a RD Gateway Server with Mac's Version of the RDC. There are paid applications for Mac that can like iTap Mobile. The alternative would be to use VPN and then remote in. I show the second one below since SBS 2011 has VPN functionality built in. O snap, look who's got a mac?!

1. iTap does not work with SBS remote gateway.

2. can you have VPN and remote gateway enabled on SBS at the same time? I will try that.

1. If it works with Server 2008R2's gateway, it will work with SBS's gateway. They are the same. I highly doubt it doesn't work since it's the main reason people buy that app. Are you sure the settings are correct?

2. Yes. The VPN uses a different port which you will have to open. It's PTTP VPN (some disadvantages compared to L2TP/IPSec, but it only takes a click to deploy).

I even contacted iTap technical support and this is their response:

"Thank you for using iTap RDP!

Unfortunately Remote Web Access is not supported by iTap RDP. On the Windows
SBS2011 Server you could enable the RD Gateway role, and use the server as the TS
Gateway in iTap RDP.

Best regards,
Stefan"

Do you know how to "enable the RD Gateway role" that he is talking about?

I will try the VPN that you are suggesting.

Remote Web Workplace does nothing more than you let you download an RDP file.

The RD Gateway Role is already installed. That's how you remote into all of your computers without having to open ports for all of them. Remote Web Workplace is just an easily accessible portal. If you actually take a look at the RDP files that get loaded, you'll see that is already using RD Gateway. If you check out the settings in the RDP file, you'll see the gateway.

Your RD Gateway Address is the same as your RWW domain name. remote.domain.com
