Hi,

My company has a business and clinical intelligence product geared for healthcare. A prospective client of ours uses AC and I have a couple technical questions to see if we can integrate our product with AC.

* Based on information on the website and on forum posts, it looks like AC is a traditional client/server application with a centralized database, correct?

* I believe both MySQL and SQL Server are supported, correct?

* Is there an ASP/SaaS version?

* I noticed Crystal Reports is mentioned, is that the only defined way to extract data?

Any help is appreciated.

Regards,

Dan

DanR,

* Yes.

* No. SQL Server 2005 Express Edition only.

* No.

* Yes. Unless you build something yourself. However, whatever you build will NOT be supported by AC.

Hi Dan,

Welcome to AC. It sounds like you have an interesting product, but please be sure to use the Vendor Forum. You are certainly welcome to post here for all other things.

James is correct on all. I would say I am with him as far as using it that way. But, I don't see where you say that on the board.

Peer-to-Peer outnumbers Client/Server on the board at least 5:1.

I much prefer C/S, but we are in the majority.

Bert,

I will definitely use the Vendor forum for any "salesy" type posts.

When you state "peer-to-peer" I assume you are referring to the setup of the users internal network and not a different version of AC. P-to-P and c/s both have a centralized SS 2005 EE as the database, correct?

Thanks

Correct. I kind of wish they would get rid of the phrase, peer-to-peer as that doesn't really fit anymore. I recall when P2P meant two or more computers connected to a switch (hub back then). So, they each were connected to each other, hence, peer to peer.

They shared each other's resources. It was very effective with small "workgroups." Then with larger offices came Client/Server which simply meant there was a single file or database computer (generally more powerful and not used by anyone) that the computers all attached to via a switch. In effect, they were all still connected to each other, but the difference was, they would only get data from the server.

In effect this is what most people use as they use AC and other apps such as billing software on one central (server) computer and several clients in a workgroup configuration.

It's is only when you use an server OS that typically has the word server in it that you can use Active Directory or other special server components which allow substantial increased function such as Group Policy, adding users, Exchange Server, and authentication.

But, you will probably want to restore your data. It makes it easier to be able to use ePrescribe. Also, since it will make you do the restore and the database tuner, it will give you some practice to make sure it goes smoothly.

fer,

Try not to post questions in threads that cover a different subject. You will also generally get a better response. You should try to start your own thread if possible. Here it doesn't matter much, because this thread has been dead for a while. smile
