in an effort to cut back on wasting paper, my office is seriously considering getting updox.

basically, we are wasting some major paper. because we are speciality office, we mail progress letters to the referring docs or primary. currently, i print a letter through AC, then i have the doctor sign it. after that, it is faxed and then shredded.

we want to skip the printing process, but are confused as to how to go about the doctor seeing the document that i plan to fax to other doctors without printing it out. the document will obviously need the doc's electronic sig or else the purpose is defeated.

any ideas/suggestions? in short, i want to know how the doctor is able to review the progress letter before i send it out - and make sure the sig is there.

Patricia,

Updox is very easy to use and has definitely cut down a lot on wasted paper. When you are ready to print the letter from Amazing Charts, you can select a printer to print to and you'll have the option of Updox which is a virtual printer in that it makes a pdf file that will show up on the Updox browser on your screen. From there, the doctor can view it and electronically sign it his/her signature that is saved on file. Then it can be faxed from Updox and you can fax it to multiple physicians at once as well.

The other benefit is that anywhere you have online capability, the doctor can log in to Updox and view documents and FAX, correct, sign, etc. I guess this may not be a benefit to some people since it gives you more access to work!

Hope that helps some.

thanks so much.

i guess my next question is going to be adding the electronic sig. i have tried, but i comes up a blank screen. once i have time, i would love to mess around with it, but we are a pretty busy office.

You should try calling the Updox staff to help you with the signature. You can also email them to schedule a time for assistance. We actually started Updox the week before AC and love the integration of the 2 systems.

Patricia,

Adding a scanned in signature is easy. However, this is different from an "electronic signature" which implies encryption and passwords for signoff (like in AC). Just a small point, however, as the scanned signature is plenty for a letter.

This is a link to the Updox directions for creating your signature.

does updox allow the doctor to edit the letter after it is written? that is the problem we are running into now. say there is a correction that needs to be made - can the doctor edit without me having to make another letter?

If you open the letter in Updox using the "Edit" button, you can mark up the letter, erase text, etc.

John,
I am not sure that we are talking about the same thing here. The "edit" function in Updox allows you to "mark-up" a document, as you would alter a pdf. I don't think you can "edit" the letter the way Patricia is discussing. Can you?

Jon,

You are correct. You can blank out and overwrite text, but not make wholesale changes in a letter, such as can be done in a word processor.
