Hi all,
This probably has nothing to do with anything.
For about the last 3 years, everytime we install a new version of AC, and go thru Windows updates, MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB954430) wants to update endlessly. This is installed, but Windows Update does not know that it is installed, and wants to keep reinstalling it.
We have found that deleting this through "Add and remove programs", then running Windows Update, will reinstall this and satisfy Windows Update that it is reinstalled.
Then WU will reinstall another similar update (??KB973688).
Anyone else have this? Can this have any connection to any speed issues?
Thanks. Gene

Gene, This is an old problem, with plenty to read about here. I don't know that there has been any resolution (or word from AC as to how they see it). It predates V6 so I doubt that it is related to recently noted slowing issues. But what do I know.

Point of information:
Searching for 954430 does not find this
Searching for *954430 does not find this
Searching for KB954430 does.
Aren't we picky?

With apologies to Bert, I quote: To work around this problem, manually install the security update from the Microsoft Download Center, and then click Ignore when the error message is displayed. To confirm that the installation was successful, verify that the version of the Msxml4.dll file in the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder is 4.20.9870.0. Detailed instructions and links are here .

Hi John,
Thanks for the reply. But the link seems dead.
2 questions:
If there is a problem with KB954430, does it effect anything? We just had the nusiance of Windows Update always calling for the update.
If we jump thru all the Microsoft hoops and use their fix, will the problem recur with the next AC update?
Just deleting KB954430 and running WU is fairly quck and painless.
Thanks. Gene

Try again. The link works for me. Otherwise you can enter:
http:// answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_other-windows_update/updates-failed-in-windows-7-kb954430-and-kb973688/ccdcd5fe-ea6a-4481-a8c6-e75e4a5f2874
I just ignore the WU request to update. I have noticed any (new) problems with AC.

Hi John,
The link works now. It did not work earlier.
In another thread Bert suggested that I had angered the eRx gods. (I'm not quoting so I do not anger Bert.) I think I did even worse, I must have angered the computer gods. They are taunting me......
Thanks. Gene

Gene,
Great to know I wasn't the only one with that issue! But did you say you uninstalled it and you are still having issues with AC?

I'm not quoting so I do not anger Bert With apologies to Bert, I quote: Do we have to apologize to Bert every time we quote now? Sorry, Bert. Twice.

Hi Jon,
I think Bert has special connections with the computer gods. Not certain about the eRx gods. Either way, I would not want to rile him up!

Hi Dr. Niko,
Uninstalling KB954430 then running Windows Update a few times solved the Windows Update issue. It appeared to do nothing to help the speed of AC. I thought we had the speed issue solved, now it seems to be rearing its ugly head again with v6.0.10.
