It appears that when prescribing meds in powder or liquid form, the volumes (i.e. mls or grms) that appear in the drop-down menu do not accurately represent that which is available. As a result, the e-prescribing module rejects the Rx and we have to find out the precise available package. Would be nice if the med database included the specific commonly-available sizes/volumes of the meds, rather than just the generic 40, 50, 100, 250, etc.

Having recently switched from Allscripts free ERx to AC ERx (i.e. Newcrop), I will say that Allscripts has all the correct units for every drug. It was extremely helpful to be able to see what was actually available. It also listed both brand and generic name for each drug I searched.

I continue to believe that New Crop is really inferior prescribing software. Also, the 3 day outage of service for doing refill requests at the end of last week is really unacceptable.

I am keeping my Allscripts active for checking units available information, or as a backup to AC/Newcrop problems.

It is free to every MD in the US, so if you are unhappy with current AC prescribing issues, sign up for Allscripts ERx. It does mean double entry in AC charting though if you use it for prescriptions.
